Question 1 of the poll from the .pdf: There will be a number of people running for president in 2008 as Republicans. Some of the most talked about are Rudy Guilliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. If the Republican primary were held today, which one of these men would you vote for, or would you vote for someone else? To Vote for Rudy press 1. To vote for McCain press 2. To vote for Romney press 3. To vote for Thompson press 4. If you would vote for another candidate press 5. If you are undecided press 6.
If the election were held today, Thompson would not be a choice nor would there be a choice for “other” or undecided.
This is it what polls are, but none of this is put out front in articles most of the time, nor do they state how many didn’t want to participate nor how many they had to call to get 500-600 people to do so, who “said” they were likely Republican voters. “Some of the most talked about are”, well I suppose the idiocy of that quote speaks for itself, heh. I am not singling this poll out to malign it. I suppose it has as much worth or credibility as any of the rest, which is none.
Polls are at best tools of the media to guide the electorate and self-fulfilling prophecy, but only if we allow ourselves to be manipulated by them in giving them validity.
And if Hunter had won this would be a great moment for the campaign...
The Thompson is not a candidate line is reaching using Hitler in an argument levels.
I am not sure if that matters in the end or not, I was just fascinated to see the internals of the poll, which most don't let you see in that detail.
The headline could almost read
"Fred Dominates with Southern White Men"
He could be a write in. ;)
