An Old Couple and Chinese Fake

There were an old couple who planted seeds to grow crops, but the seeds never germinated. They were Chinese fake. In despair, they drank pesticide to kill themselves. Fortunately, it was also Chinese fake and the couple survived. Happy that they can live again, they celebrated their new lease on life by having a liquor, which finally killed them. It was again Chinese fake.

This is the joke going around in S. Korea, in light of Chinese fake good scandal.

China's incompetent medical staff killed senior S. Korean diplomat, too. It happened at Vista Clinic in Beijing, allegedly the first-rate clinic frequented by many foreigners.

Here is the information I pulled up from Internet. For some reason, their source link, www.vista-china.net, does not work.

Thanks for the info on the clinic Tiger. I used to live in Beijing and went to the Beijing United or the International SOS whenever I had to. I was worried that it was one of these but thankfully its not.

Never heard of Vista all the time that I was in Beijing. Its either new or its not all that good to start with. Its probably another ploy to kill Japanese expats in the city :)

The South Koreans who made this joke are quick to forget their own recent history. South Korea had its plenty share of fakes back in the 1960s and 1970s.

Fake and copyright-violation products are essentially a rite of passage for most developing nations.

Oh, if you really want to play this game of faking, let’s not forget the fake Korean scientist Hwang Woo-Suk who claimed to have cloned human embryonic stem cells and was initially supported by millions of blind South Koreans in his defense.

It is not just a matter of copy right infringement. Many of these products are dangerous and exported to U.S.

Hwang's problem is debunked by local scientists and journalists. S. Korea did not cover it up, unlike Chinese regimes tend to do.

A small website frequented by bio/medical scientists started questioning Hwang's research and they broke it open. In China, they would have been promptly shut down to save embarrassment.

If you are going to make fake and dangerous products, don't export them and cry conspiracy when you are caught. And if you make a mistake such as getting a foreign senior diplomat killed, promptly apologize. Don't drag your feet or try to dismiss it. According to the news report, the clinic is still taking patients and the doctor who treated the dead diplomat is still working.

Several of the lower ranked scientists who criticised Hwang initially were FIRED or reprimanded by the NATIONAL university. South Koreans were still rabidly defending Hwang until Hwang's colleagues in the United States openly expressed their doubts of his work.

My point was that faking crap is hardly unique to China, as much as you would not like to admit it. If you were a Korean who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, you wouldn't have such a big chip on your shoulder, and you would have hesitated before laughing at China's current disgrace. You would also know that during the 1970s Korean chaebols like Samsung copied everything there was to copy from Japanese companies, and Korean mom-and-pop factories in the Chollas made everything from fake antibiotics to fake Japanese rice cookers.

Well the cover-up did not succeed in Hwang's case not because of investigations from outside but from inside.

It was not copying that mattered. It was dangerous and unsafe products. And gull to export them.

Don't export them. It is China who has a huge chip on their shoulder. They know they are pushing (unsafe) craps to the world, and now turn around and say they are blamed merely for "underperformance." It is not just underperformance. If it were, things would not have been this controversial. Japanese and S. Korean products all underperformed, and were called junks in the past. But they are just junks. They did not have deadly chemicals in them, or unsafe enough to wound or kill consumers.

If Chinese do not mind consuming such unsafe and deadly products, that is their business. I do not understand why they are exporting them overseas in such a massive quantity.

Neither Japanese nor S. Koreans did that. Actually back in the past, quality control for export items was markedly stringent than those for domestic consumption.

You do no want to lose faith to the world. Then do more stringent quality control on export items. Voluntarily ban items which can create really bad publicity.

Finally, don't think that past S. Koreans are on the same league as current Chinese on this matter. It is two or more order of magnitude higher for Chinese.
