Preview and Analysis for Weekend of August 4th and 5th, 2007

Here we go.  The DBM must try to shore up their "the war is already lost" narrative.  they will grill Gates and Rice mercilessly, particularly Gates based on his comments on his return flight from the gulf this week.  This is his big test whether he can handle the pressure and whether he's really on our side in all of this, or just another bureaucrat filling a seat.  I believe he's one of the good guys (gig 'em), but you can never tell.

And Fox is the only network who booked O'Hanlon and Pollack, those errant liberal Clintonistas who dared to pen that traitorous New York Times op-ed A War We Just Might Win.  How could they, the libs ask.  Thus this weekends battle lines are drawn.  The rest of the DBM will ignore (as much as they can) the O'Hanlon/Pollack piece that dares to suggest that we might be able to win in Iraq.  They will concentrate on pushing the "it's a failure" narrative, while simultaneously trying to undermine anyone who dares to questions that meme.  The big question this weekend is will O'Hanlon and Pollack stick to the current spin on their piece or will they take the opportunity afforded by Chris Wallace to "correct and extend" their comments?  I think that depends on how much pressure has been applied to them this week and what their ultimate motive for this piece may be.  Rush suggested that they did this to help bolster Hillary's position on the Iraq war.  We'll have to wait and see.

So, where does this leave us?  With a Congress in total collapse under the control of the insane clown posse of Pelosi, , Hoyer, Murtha,  Reid, Byrd, Durbin and Schumer.  As expected, by those of us who are both self aware and not totally in thrall to the DBM mind control team.

Meet The Press begins the all out assault on all things Bush with an attack on Gates.  The meat of this week's show, however, is defined by the "roundtable" panel of (Hillary sycophant) Bernstein, (plaragist) Doris Kearns Goodwin, (Obama sycophant) David Mendell and that "Christian bigot" David Brody for "balance."  Oh, Timmah, Timmah, Timmah.  Do you have some penance to do, laddie.

Face The Nation trains their partisan DBM guns on Condoleeza Rice as their target of opportunity.  They will likely try to attack the administration's attempts to kick start the mid-east peace process.  for people so devoted to "peace" and "negotiation" they seem singularly intent on attacking any negotiating or moves intended to promote peace.  No matter how misguided, Rice is doing what they want her to do, yet they're never satisfied.  Talk about cognitive dissonance!  Rahm Emanuel is on for no discernible reason, but I'm willing to guarantee you that he won't be pressed on vote stealing in Nazi Pelosi's gulag.  If the subject even gets raised it will be interesting to see how it's framed and how much tap dancing Ol' Bob and young Rahm do to try to avoid calling it what it is, namely fascism (or Stalinism, depending on your point of view).

Fox News Sunday provides what I hope will be a bit more reasonable venue for Secretary Rice than Ol' partisan Bob's half hour Bush admin hate fest on CBS.  Of course, Chris Wallace has proved himself to be thoroughly in the pocket of daddy's freakish anti-American theology, so no guarantees, particularly since Brit is once again not to be found.  Are they intentionally trying to force him out?  The most interesting guests of the week are O'Hanlon and Pollack, or New York Times "we might win this one" fame.  There are three possibilities here, first that they will confirm their heretical position, second that they will spin it to try to reverse the effect and third that they have laid a trap and will spring it this weekend, attacking on some new tangent (e.g. military victory won't fix the corrupt and incompetent Iraq government, therefore we must leave).  Machiavelli would have loved this set up.  As stated there's no Brit this weekend, so the heavy lifting is up to Bill Kristol.  He's proven himself to be quite capable of pissing off the intelligentsia with his own "we might win this one" rhetoric, so he's not a bad fall back position, but he's no Brit.  And Charles will contribute a few pearls of wisdom, so we're probably in for a good panel, even without Brit.

On CNN Late Edition Wolfie provides Secretary Gates a second platform for the weekend.  No doubt he'll be pressed heavily on the AP spin of his comments on his return flight from the Middle East.  He may have even phrased his comments as he did to guarantee his invites to the Sunday shows.  We'll have to wait and see if he's staying on the reservation and delivering the Bush administration's message or if he's striking out on his own as Colin Powell so often did.  He's an Aggie, so I trust he won't disgrace the institution.  Ol' owlish Carl Levin is on to continue his "we've lost we must surrender" tantrum.  The Senator from Al Qaeda must get his "we've lost" talking points out or he may displease his masters.  Hamid Karzai and Benazir Bhutto provide the broader perspective that is the redeeming value of this program.  It will be instructive to see how each is treated in their respective interviews and, particularly, what comments each may make about the other's situation.

ABC This Week has a 90 minute special with the announced Republican candidates in a "debate" setting.  I doubt that curious George will actually allow a debate to break out, preferring to editorialize in his questions, but it's probably worth watching.  I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Fred Thompson make himself available to Fox News later in the day to put in his two cents.

The Saturday shows (mostly all done as I type) are becoming less worth paying attention to each week.  Fred and Mort on The Beltway Boys are increasingly unwatchable for anyone who is actually following what's going on.  Their relentless regurgitation of the "conventional wisdom" in Washington is infuriating.  I've dropped CNBC's Tim Russert Show this week as they appear to have stopped posting any info about it on their web site.  Plus, it's just not worth following anymore.  Fox News Watch isn't much better as they consistently refuse to even admit to the fraud and deceit in their so called profession, while obsessing on tabloid trash topics.  This week they're concentrating on the "controversy" surrounding Rupert Murdoch's purchase of the Wall Street Journal (only a controversy to the brain dead leftists in the media) and the Michal Vick "scandal."  What a waste.  The Journal Editorial Report redeems Saturday's brain dead programs, a bit, with an examination of the partisan mud wrestling that the Dhimmicrats have made of our nation's capitol.  They also delve into the tabloid world of sports scandal a bit, but I can forgive them as they will make it meaningful and not just sensational.

So, there's the line up for this week.  As is my habit the last few months I'm way late in posting this, sorry about that, but I can only do what I can do when I can do it. 

The networks are bent on their "the war is lost" trajectory and no amount of reality will divert them.  This weekend seems to be a tussle between real reality and the "reality based community" over just what the meaning of "reality" is.  It's like arguing over what the meaning of "is" is, which is something they are apparently comfortable with.  The dinosaur media is still intent on defining what is really real, and denying the real reality of what they don't want us to know.  Is that Orwellian enough for you?  Winston Smith would feel right at home in the media world of 2007.

Seriously, there needs to be a "reality check" show each week to review what the DBM is spewing forth on their broadcasts.  In any given week there are ten and a half hours of old network nightly news shows to dissect, plus the 24/7 filth spewed by CNN/MSNBC/Fox.  How hard would it be (and how profitable) for someone to do a week in review on those shows and point out the most egregious examples of misinformation and agenda journalism?  but, of course, that would mean the offending journalist doing the review would no longer be part of "the club" and wouldn't be invited to the right parties.  Well, I hereby volunteer to host such a show.   I have no bridges to burn nor relationships to sacrifice.  It will take an outsider to truly check their madness.  And like most such positions it will be necessary to impose term limits on such a gadfly as they will inevitably be co-opted by the powers that be.  This is a job for a true outsider.

So, the first weekend in August of 2007 is now unfolding.  Are we in the midst of the worst straits of the Dhimmicrat/DBM pessimist fantasies or are we on the cusp of critical decisions and actions that will determine our future for a thousand years?  That is up to us to determine, despite what Timmah, Georgie, Wolfie, Ol' Bob or Daddy's boy Chris wants to push on us.

In this context, we are the deciders.  We need to examine their shtick with a critical eye.

This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today. I have finally caught up over their and I hope to keep up to date from now on. In fact I'm going to change the format just a bit when posting this in light of the success of the technique I used to get caught up. This analysis will still be first but then I'm going to try putting all of the show by show posts into one big Post number 1. If I end up falling back to separate posts you'll know that I found an upper limit to the length of FR posts.

This thread exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. One thing you will NOT hear in the Politically Corrupted Media today is how the bridge is a wound we Minnesotan’s inflicted on ourselves.

The bridge was 1st deemed structurally deficient in 1990. It was built to 1960 building standards that are now obsolete.

During the 1990s the State of Minnesota diverted over a billion dollars of State, and Federal, infrastructure dollars into an eco-freak boondoggle light rail project between down town Minneapolis and the Minneapolis airport. The project is called the “Hiawatha Light Rail Corridor”.

Maybe Minnesota politicians, mostly Democrats, during the 1990s should of been tending to our existing infrastructure instead of wasting our money for political “legacy building” and “prestige” projects.

Using the currently stated cost for rebuilding the bridge at $250 million, for the cost of this single light rail project this bridge could of been completely rebuilt from scratch 5 or 6 times during the 1990s.

This “Light Rail” project was largely the brain child of the Metropolitan Council . Either as the head of the council, or one of its most politically connected members, at the time was former VP Walter Mondale’s son Ted.

The sadly ironic thing here is the terminal for this billion dollar waste of state and Federal transportation dollars is about 1 mile from the bridge that collapsed.

WOW! What an awesome post! This needs to be bumped all day!

Seriously, there needs to be a "reality check" show each week to review what the DBM is spewing forth on their broadcasts. This is a GREAT idea. Seriously, a show like this would be huge and you've convinced me that you are the perfect one to host it!
