:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Disaster Looms in Pakistan

Decorum was abandoned as accusations ricocheted between the wood-panelled walls of Pakistan's national assembly on Monday night. "Murderers! Murderers of innocent people!" screamed an MP from a religious party, his yellow turban shaking as he wagged a finger towards the government benches.

Five female parliamentarians, their faces concealed behind black and white burkas, slapped the benches with open palms. Another mullah stood up and started shouting. The speaker strained to maintain order.

Others were less captivated by the debate on last month's siege of the Red Mosque, in which more than 100 people died. One man snoozed at his desk. Across the vast hall others started whispered conversations. And high above them Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a dapper man with a pinched, clean-shaven face, looked on impassively from his giant portrait on the wall. Full story...

“Thailand: 10 Killed, 16 Civilians Wounded In Gun And Bomb Attacks Across Southern Thailand”
Updated:2007-08-02 12:46:24 MYT

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “PATTANI, THAILAND: Ten people, including two soldiers and five suspected Muslim insurgents, were killed and 16 civilians wounded Wednesday (August 1st) as rebels staged an ambush and set off bombs across southern Thailand, police said.

Five suspected Muslim insurgents were shot dead in a gunbattle with Thai soldiers in the violence-wracked region, said police Lt. Sompien Eksomya.

Attackers opened fire on a unit of soldiers on a search operation in Yala province’s Bannang Sata district where Muslim insurgency has been particularly active in carrying out violent attacks, he said.

No soldiers were hurt in the hour-long firefight, Sompien said.

The 10 soldiers surrounded a neighborhood in the district in a house-to-house search for suspected insurgents involved in a bombing that killed seven soldiers in June, Sompien said.

“They were acting on a tip-off that these insurgents have been hiding in the village,” said Sompien.

In separate violence, insurgents attacked troops guarding a railway line with gunfire in Yala province, killing two soldiers, said provincial police chief Col. Narasak Chiengsuk.

Also Wednesday (August 1st), at least three assailants sprayed dozens of bullets into a house in Narathiwat province, killing two men, said police Lt. Vorapong Klomsakun.

In the same province, one person was killed and six injured when a bomb exploded near a market, police said.

Police said it was one of six bombs that exploded in several areas of the province Wednesday (August 1st) morning.

Later Wednesday (August 1st), a bomb went off at a police booth in Songkhla province, killing one policeman and wounding nine others.

More than 2,300 people have been killed in the predominantly Muslim provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat and some parts of Songkhla since early 2004, when a separatist movement flared up after a lull of more than two decades.”

New al qaeda video....

This is significant, IMO. It’s threatening a “big surprise” - soon. It has been made by the al sahab group who have produced previous videos featuring Bin Laden. This is only a preview - apparently the full video will be released in a couple of days.

A number of people feature in the video, one of which may be Adnan el Shukrijumah. Take a look and see what you think.

Thank Cindy, the weather has been awful in the UK but we’re making the most of the little bit of sunshine. I have two children now, aged two and one so I’ve been pretty busy. I do try to dip into the threat matrix as often as I can. :-)

Smiling at you...I know little ones will keep you on the run.

Always good to see you (online), British Chick.

If I ever get over there one day; I would like to ride on one
one of those double decker buses.

Thanks for the new thread.

something i came out of hiding for, worth noting is visiting Jill’s site. She needs a hand and if anyone can help i’m sure she would appreciate it. I’ve never seen such consistent a streak of bad luck. If anybody can help her out it would be appreciated greatly. She’s worked very hard for us over the years and for once, needs us.

Take care.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “But not all companies are alert to the problem. A spokeswoman for ThePlanet, in Houston, said, “We don’t police the content of our websites.” Asked about the website they host for the group Palestinian Islamic Jihad—a State Department-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization—she claimed never to have heard of it and would say only, “We work with the authorities when sites are a credible threat or there is some kind of pending harm.””

I asked privately and didn’t get a response. Why are there so many “cluttery” posts? Why are things being reposted from last month and even 6 years ago, but no reason behind it and no new events to warrant it? This is a great thread, but man it’s hard to wade through or keep up with when things are reposted ad nauseum!
