Democrats Blame Republicans and Bush for Low Approval By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer July 20, 2007

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Thursday blamed the Republican minority for sinking congressional approval ratings, calling recent poll results "a referendum on Republican obstructionism." Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) blamed President Bush.

Schumer told reporters that Republicans - who earlier this week blocked a Democratic amendment that would have mandated a troop withdrawal from Iraq, and who in June blocked a comprehensive immigration reform bill - are frustrating Americans who are hungry for change.

A Zogby telephone poll released Thursday showed approval of Congress "continues to plummet" and now sits at just 14 percent. Eighty-three percent of respondents gave Congress negative marks. The polling organization credited the low numbers to the "acrimonious scrimmage over immigration reform" in June.

"The American people are demanding change," Schumer said. "The one thing standing in the way is the Republicans in the Senate."

Reid echoed Schumer's frustration with Republicans but was also quick to blame Bush.

"When you have a president who is so unpopular ... it really reflects poorly on Congress," Reid said. "None of them [congressional approval ratings] are real high and we acknowledge that, but most of it relates to the unpopularity of the president."

Bush's job approval ratings in Zogby polls have been in the low and mid-30s since October 2006. This week it stood at 34 percent.

Reid's contention, however, jarred with the view of the polling company, which described Bush's job approval rating as having "stabilized" while saying that "opinion of the work Congress is doing continues to plummet."

Obstruction of what? These knot-heads have done nothing but call for useless investigations, and issue subpoenas.

They just don't get it, which is fine with me.

Schumer is an amazing man. Proof that a human can live without a conscience.

The ratings of Congress were worse than the President’s even before the last election. How they got even lower since then can only be reflection on all of them. Quit spending our money like it means nothing to you!

Bush is so unpopular, that after giving him 34% approval, they realized they MEANT to give him less, so when the pollster asked about Congress, the voters gave them LOW scores to lower the average.

Just trying to help this freaking IDIOT who is obviously losing his marbles.

For those not paying attention, this is the Democrats idea of taking responsibility for one's actions--as reflected in their philosophy.

Ha, ha, ha! Nice try! How can you blame someone who has HIGHER low approval ratings for your lower low ones?

satanic POS, lying, obfuscating, deceiving, projecting, never take responsibility for their own actions and inadequacies... dims projecting themselves, their actions, what they do and the results of that onto the Republicans and President Bush.

Here is the absolute proof that harry reid is lying... if it is ALL Bush and the Republicans fault that America now hates them and the job they are and are NOT doing... why are Bush’s numbers, while low, not at ALL TIME RECORD LOWS for a President... while reid and company have set ALL TIME LOW APPROVAL NUMBERS AND ALL TIME HIGH DISAPPROVAL numbers for the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES? Answer: They are lying POS dims!

dims always said that while they were obstructing the Republican agenda that they were doing it as the LOYAL OPPOSITION PARTY and that Republicans were Failures at LEADERSHIP due to the fact that they could not stop dims from obstructing the Republican agenda... same to you reid... you sub-human POS!

Rat, after all, are sneaky, dirty, do most of their work in the dark and cause considerable damage.

With those qualities, did the rat Schumer actually expect normal people to like him?

Democrats project on to others what THEY really are. Reid’s approval rating is a WHOPPING 14%. Pelosi is sinking FAST in the polls, even in California....

The voters have buyer’s remorse...Yes, they did want change in Iraq...they wanted QUICK victory..they did NOT want what these democrats have shown them...(and I hope they keep this up)

NY is an “amazing” state if it can elect the like of Schumer. I have often heard that the most dangerous place on Earth is the space between Chuckie and a microphone. Even Hillary does not approach his level of hipocracy. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to live there in any state that Schumer representing them.

God bless us to continue to "frustrate" Americans who are "hungry" for the kind of change Schumer advocates.

This is a case of 50sDad-Conservative Brand Baked Beans, as seen on other threads. These people are incapable of realizing that they are the problem. No amount of market research will get them to admit that their product sucks and no one wants it. Just as with Liberal causes and candidates since time began, when they fail horribly, it must be because "we failed to get our message out" (to you stupid, backward, clod-hopping, moronic, bigoted, flyover-state, backward, small-minded, Bible-thumping Christian voters.)

One needn’t read much beyond the headline to recognize a most common trait of the Liberal mind which is to BLAME anything or anyone other than themselves for any and all of their failures real or imagined.

In their “Groupthink” they are blind to their own failures, because as “Progressives”, as “Intellectuals” they are superior and cannot fail.

You are right...If the low ratings for Congress was due to GOP “obstruction”, then Bush would be at 14% (not HARRY REID). Pelosi would be RISING in the polls, not dropping like a rock.
