"Truth be told" about Chimp-Human DNA comparisons

"Truth be told" about Chimp-Human DNA comparisons For over 30 years, the public have been led to believe that human and chimpanzee genetics differ by mere 1%. This 'fact' of science has been used on innumerable occasions to silence anyone who offered the thought that humans are special among the animal kingdom. "Today we take as a given that the two species are genetically 99% the same." However, this "given" is about to be discarded....

I continue to be surprised when racism goes unopposed on FR. I guess I’m too much of an optimist.
How rather Ratherian. In other words, fake but accurate. It serves the purpose!
"And therein lies the rub. In order for you to prove the theory of evolution and to have it universally accepted by all people as true fact, you must first completely destroy the Holy Bible and all it teaches us. There can be no Creator. No God. No miracles. God cannot possibly have created the Earth or the Heavens or Man and every Creature that walks swims or crawls. There was no Adam and Eve. No Garden of Eden. No original sin. There was no Noah. No Ark. No flood. No Moses. No burning bush. No Ten Commandments handed down from God. Jesus cannot possibly have been the Son of God, nor could he have died on the cross for our sins. The Resurrection could not possibly have happened. There is no Saviour and no Salvation. No life after death. No Heaven. No Hell. No God. No Satan. No good vs evil. Therefore all of Christianity, in fact, all of all religions are simply mythical fairy tales based on lies and superstition. The theory of evolution does not allow for the Holy Bible, or miracles including the miracle of Creation, the miracle of life, etc, or God our Creator, or Jesus Christ, or Christianity, Judaism, etc. The Declaration of Independence is therefore also a lie. If there is no Creator, our rights cannot possibly have come from God. In other words, we have no unalienable rights. Our rights would only be what the government allows us. The Declaration would be null and void and the founding would have been based on lies rather than "these truths we hold self-evident." The first amendment would simply be a cruel joke. The Bill of Rights would have no foundation on truth or unalienable rights from God and that would also make the entire Constitution of the United States null and void. All laws based on the Ten Commandments would be null and void. There would be no God to guide our judges and no reason not to bear false witness. Our entire American history, in fact all of civilization would be based on nothing but lies. Our ancestors passed down lies to our grand parents and parents and they lied to us and we have taught our children nothing but lies.
I remember in school we were told by our biology teacher that humans and watermelons are just 1% different in water content. So I said that if I drink more water I’ll be a watermelon?
“..if you believe in evolution, you can neither be conservative, a Christian or even a true, patriotic American:”
Truly the remark of a myopic individual who thinks within a mental straight-jacket.
“No other animal relies on cooked food, he said”
I’ve seen dogs eat poop, too, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great addition to the human diet.
Man (Homo sapiens) is a primate.
“Then why do great apes and man share the exact same genetic defect that makes it impossible for us to make our own vitamin C?”
Correlation and commonality are not the same as causation.
“Most people want to believe what they want to believe. That probably applies to most of us who believe in evolution, too.”
You’ve summed up the entire debate right there.
Everyone on both sides of this issue finds evidence to fit their own beliefs. Neither side looks at it objectively and dispassionately, even though both side claim to do so.
“Man (Homo sapiens) is a primate.”
You are referring to, “Planet of the Apes”....right?
This statement can't be further from the truth as your own article proves it wrong. The 1% only deals with DNA sequences...and the DNA sequences are still 1% different.....as your article backs. That doesn't mean humans are 1% different than chimps...only that human DNA is 1% different than chimp DNA.
Shhhhhh.....you’re making sense to this biologist....gotta go down to simpler thinking.
That is a pretty neat display Alamo-Girl.
So Origin of Species isn't really about speciation through natural selection?
Your argument is with the AAAS’s rag “Science”, not me:
“But truth be told, Wilson and King also noted that the 1% difference wasnt the whole story. They predicted that there must be profound differences outside genesthey focused on gene regulationto account for the anatomical and behavioral disparities between our knuckle-dragging cousins and us. Several recent studies have proven them perspicacious again, raising the question of whether the 1% truism should be retired.
‘For many, many years, the 1% difference served us well because it was underappreciated how similar we were,’ says Pascal Gagneux, a zoologist at UC San Diego. ‘Now its totally clear that its more a hindrance for understanding than a help.’”

Well, if they want to think that they're like monkeys for themselves, far be it from me to disagree with them...
He never said he thought we were descended FROM monkeys. That's reading far more into it than he said.
However, evos on this thread are quite vocal about insisting that we are apes, so his sentiment is not so far off.
The amazing elastic ToE. If it doesn’t work, stretch it to fit.
We are not apes.
We are hominids. Apes and men are closely related - but you still have to realize that “close” is a relative term.
Modern man has been around only about 100,000 years or so. Before that, our non-”human” ancestors diverged from the line that gave rise to apes millions of years before that.

Can this little fiasco then put put into the fraud category the next time evos ask us for examples?
