Bush pressed to pardon border agents (Duncan Hunter & Dana Rohrbacher)
Wash. Times ^ | 7/3/07 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 07/05/2007 12:56:42 PM PDT by pissant

Two California congressmen, one of whom introduced legislation this year calling for a congressional pardon for two U.S. Border Patrol agents, say that if President Bush can commute the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, he can order pardons for the agents.

"If the president of the United States is going to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby, he should immediately accompany that with a pardon for Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos," said Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican and 2008 presidential candidate.

"If Scooter Libby is going to receive this treatment, and there very well could be a compelling reason for the president's actions, agents Compean and Ramos should then be provided a full pardon," said Mr. Hunter, whose bill has 100 co-sponsors. "Mr. President, pardon our Border Patrolmen."

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican, said Libby was convicted of obstructing the investigation of a crime, "yet no one has been charged with a crime" in the case. However, Mr. Rohrabacher said, while Mr. Bush rightly showed mercy to Libby, he "does not seem to have the same mercy for the average men and women holding the front lines of our borders.

Has president Bush mentioned anything in regards to the agents to acknowledge he even knows what is going on?

Everyone knows that a Grand Jury can be convinced to bring indictments against anyone the prosecutor wants, or had you forgotten about Delay or Nifong?

There are quite a few corrupt prosecutors out there. Sutton happens to be another Nifong.

” filing false reports “

As I understood it, this was the reason for the guilty verdict.

They were doing their job until they tried to cover it up. You are right....not the same as the Libby case.

So you actually believe that Lou Dobbs would go on national television day after day asking, and demanding, that these border agents be set free, if in fact they were guilty?

We are talking CNN here. I don’t think so. But hey, try again. Libby was railroaded all right. And heaven forbid if he ever decided to sing.

Good point. After all this is the same president who claimed he didn't know the border fence wasn't being built.

I’m just wondering what information is being passed to him in what format (ie, someone with an agenda editing it, etc.)..

If not pardon, atleast commute the rest of their sentences. It should be easy to do out of concern for their health and safety.

>>The court has not made the transcripts public.<<

Please stop lying. The transcripts have been released for months now, and I have read them.

Ramos was severely beaten in prison and is in soltary confinement. At one point, he was not even allowed to read books. So please go away until you know what you are talking about. Or just go away.

Someone is on Hannity right now talking about this.. interesting perspective and shedding a lot of light on what happened. I’ll investigate what he is saying, but if true, I won’t be so quick to join the pardon wagon.

The scumbag "El Guesto" on Sean Hannity's show
now is the crooked US Attorney Johnny Sutton
for the Western District of Texas - He has deliberately
made immunity deals with drug smugglers to be
to convict US Border Patrol agents in court

He is also attempting to justify his prosecution
and the conviction of Border Patrol Agent Hernandez.

Don't forget that George Bush's nanny was an illegal
alien and that Jeb Bush also knowingly and illegally
brought in and married an Mexican illegal alien in Texas

Are there any other Presidential candidates speaking about this, aware of this, trying to correct this injustice? We have a Coast Guard, we need a Border Guard, a military entity, with new rules of engagement etc. The Border Agents should be released, yesterday, and Sutton should replace them in prison. What Sutton has done is insured that Border Agents will stand down now and we will all be less safe as a result. Agents are not permitted to pursue fleeing suspects? Anyone else here tired of watching our brave soldiers fight wars and our Border agents try to secure our borders with their hands tied behind their backs? Anyone else here feel like voting for Duncan Hunter?

I think Tancredo is a cosponsor of Hunter’s bill to urge a pardon for these officers.

Ramos and Compean actually committed crimes.

No, it was Davila-Aldrete who committed a crime, and Sutton sat by for at least two years while he committed it repreatedly.
