:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made appearances on several television talk shows.

He told ABC's This Week program there is no indication of a linkage between the events in Britain and any specific attacks on the United States. "We do not have, at this point, specific, credible intelligence that there is an attack, a particular attack, focused on this country," he said.

But at the same time, speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Chertoff said U.S. authorities are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially in the coming months. "We have had a number of al-Qaida leaders quite publicly talking about how they want to carry out their threats against the West. So, given that and given the history that we have had over past summers, with attacks in Britain, I think we were clearly focused on this as a possibility," he said. Full story...

“Militants to target foreigners - report”
July 30 2007 at 02:23PM

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Algiers - The Algerian army has begun closing in on about 100 members of al-Qaeda’s north Africa wing who it says are planning to attack and kidnap foreigners, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The military was acting on information, provided by a militant who surrendered, that the rebels were preparing to assassinate and abduct foreigners working on an east-west highway project, independent daily El Khabar said.

The search began on Thursday in the provinces of Blida, Ain Defla and Medea south-west of the capital Algiers, the newspaper added, citing unnamed sources.”

Cindy good morning,

i’ve come across quite a debate. i think it deserves a ping but i don’t know how to ping it.

the thread is here and please correct me if i’m wrong but are some people so blind?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1874097/posts?page=13

i’m really not trying to start any sh*t but i am opinionated on this topic for reason.

honestly my main point is we need to secure the homeland before pissing other people off! everyone on the TM knows this, the group that wants us dead may have a small majority in iraq but are gearing up for something big. every single intelligence analyst i google says ‘it’s when not if’ so where does that leave us? but how can i talk to someone saying we are ‘winning’ in afghanistan and iraq when i feel the real battle will be something destructive on our own property. the silence is not a nice one!

if i have any defense its that i’ve hit the bottle a bit to o much today, my neighbors this nice swedish couple who i had the best times with just left. no excuse, but i’m back at the pc with a bottle and these are just my thoughs. i don’t mean to offend anybody at all!!

sorry in advance for letting my thoughts loose, ihaven’t slept, i said bye to good friends today, i’m hitting the bottle yet that doesn’t make this disqualified. these are my true opinions. I want to know, how can we win this war??

-h.

Police: Man Had Homemade Explosives In His Car (Pennsylvania)
Jul 31, 2007

MOUNT LEBANON - A 33-year-old man is facing charges after police in Mt. Lebanon allegedly found several homemade explosives in his car. Police say they stopped him for speeding but he was unusually nervous. The man allegedly told police he had dynamite.

Five homes were evacuated and the Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called in to check out the car. Police say they found several improvised explosive devices. A few hours later, neighbors were allowed back inside their homes. He will be charged with having prohibited offensive weapons, reckless endangerment and risking a catastrophe.

Passenger carrying knife on flight called 'isolated incident' (Calgary,Canada)
Tuesday, July 31, 2007

A lapse in security that allowed a passenger to board a plane travelling from Calgary to Ottawa with a knife is an "isolated incident," said an airport security spokeswoman.

A device similar to a Swiss Army knife showed up in the man's hand baggage as it went through the security X-ray on Sunday night, said Anna-Karina Tabunar, a spokeswoman with Canadian Air Transport Security Authority. The passenger managed to pick up his bag and board his flight. Security officers had to use closed-circuit television to figure out who they were looking for and the man was intercepted when the plane landed in Ottawa, she said. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2007/07/31/security-calairport.html

Pirate Radio Stations Interfering With Israeli Airport Traffic
7/31/2007

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Broadcasts from illegal radio stations near Israel's main international airport are jeopardizing flight safety by jamming communications between pilots and air traffic controllers, an international pilots' association said Tuesday.Advertisement

"In recent months, the situation has worsened, with the pirate transmissions frequently blocking air-to-ground communications," said a statement from the London-based International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations. The problem at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport has become so severe in recent weeks that the airport had to stop operations for hours at time due to pirate radio broadcasts, the IFALPA's regional representative Capt. Zvi Rosenberg said.

Bomb squad destroys suspicious package (Florida)
July 31, 2007

A suspicious package was discovered Monday in the 900 block of Railroad Avenue, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. The Big Bend Regional Bomb Squad responded to the threat and closed Railroad Avenue between Gaines and Gamble streets from about noon to 3 p.m., TPD said.

A pedestrian found the suspicious package, which John Creamer of TPD described as a small luggage case with wire tubing and keypad inside. The bomb squad used a robot to pick up the package and place it in a containment vessel, an egg-shaped steel container specially constructed to withstand blasts. They later destroyed the package. The bomb squad has not yet confirmed that the package was an explosive device.

During that time, no one could access the businesses on Railroad Avenue. According to E'layne Koenigsberg, the Railroad Square Art Park manager, no one could enter or leave Railroad Square. "The police kept us informed, and there was no level of panic or anything," Koenigsberg said. "Everybody kept their cool."

Suspicious bottle found, disarmed (Maryland)
July 31, 2007

Police are looking for the person who planted an explosive device in the road near Hope Circle and Pennsylvania Avenue on Monday afternoon, according to the Frederick Police Department. Residents noticed the 2-liter plastic soda bottle about 12:45 p.m. and told a Frederick County Sheriff's Office deputy who had been patrolling the area.

Police said the bottle appeared to have been filled with a liquid and pressure inside was causing it to expand. Police are working to identify the liquid. Members of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services and United Fire Company were among the first to arrive. A Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office bomb technician arrived to help investigate.

Officials closed the area around Pennsylvania Avenue and Hope Circle for almost three hours as a precaution, police said. Police did not evacuate the residential neighborhood. About 2:45 p.m., police urged bystanders to take cover before the bomb technician used a pellet rifle to puncture the bottle.

Police said the bottle was filled with a substance, or possibly a combination of substances, that could have caused an explosion. Several neighbors said they heard loud booming noises Sunday between 10 and 11 p.m. Samantha Naylor, who lives on Hope Circle, said she heard what sounded like cannons firing outside her house. Police said they did not receive any calls relating to such incidents in the area during those hours. Naylor said she is glad no one was injured, but worries it might take a more serious incident to teach someone a lesson.

very strange

Tests are being conducted this morning to determine what is the white substance that was dumped by a plane last night over a neighborhood in Bolles Harbor, Michigan, just south of Monroe.

Mt. Lebanon Mufti: Hizbullah Caused Destruction Of Lebanon

Mt. Lebanon Mufti Sheikh Muhammad ‘Ali Al-Jozo has harshly attacked Hizbullah, saying that it had lost the trust of the Lebanese people and had become a tool of terror in the hands of Syria and Iran.

Al-Jozo stated that Hizbullah had forced last year’s war on the Lebanese people, and by doing so had caused the destruction and ruin of the country.
