If Chertoff really believes this, he should resign and let someone else enforce the law.

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy... what did I tell ya? LOL!

Do you seriously think the voters need to see video of a Republican administration arresting and deporting Hispanics in the middle of the night?

We become a nation of scofflaws. Choose which laws to obey and don’t prosecute in court those who violate them.

Identity theft, non-payment of taxes, smuggling, illegal border crossing. What is a little drug use, assault, rape, vote fraud, etc. on top of that?

This will “all change” once they are able to step out of the shadows, right?

And suddenly we WILL be able to enforce the immigration laws for everyone who tries to come over after Jan1 2007, RIGHT?

If we “can’t” enforce the laws now, how are reforms supposed to lead to SUDDEN enforcement?

He knows better and he should step down if he intends to make excuses that we can't get there from here.

This is America. We not only built a spece program from nothing, we put people on the moon. We have freed millions of people enslaved under communism. We have fed more people starving from floods, wars, tsunamis, and earthquakes. We never said, "Sorry no can do". That would be un-American. Get it, Mister Chertoff?

Get cracking or get out of that chair.

Michael Chertoff said. “We don’t really have the ability to enforce the law with respect to illegal work in this country in a way that’s truly effective.”

Comment:

I have posted over and over that Chertoff needs to go.

He is in my opinion nothing more than a Step And Fetch-it person in over their head.

He seems arrogant and aloof with out much knowledge of what is supposed to be doing, another words a buffoon in a very sensitive job.

Instead of doing what he is paid to do Chertoff spends a great deal of time trying to piss off citizens with his inane remarks of bigotry, ignorance and racism.

Some people organize and others just getter done.

Amen! For a moment there I thought it was “We’ve Already Lost”, Reid instead of Chertoff.

Really - I don't have a law enforcement background and I can figure this out:

1) Anytime an illegal is discovered by a local police force, have the illegal detained.
2) Put the detained illegals on a bus and drive them to the other side of the border and make them get off the bus.
3) Build a secure fence so they can't come creeping back in.

Is that really so hard to figure out?

Would it really be that hard to actually do?

I don't think so - if Chertoff can't do it - give me the job and I'll do it.
