Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 30 June 07 | James Taylor

Posted on 06/30/2007 10:30:56 AM PDT by NavVet

Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ''An Inconvenient Truth,'' have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims.

For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame."

Does this mean I should sell short on Gore's carbon offset credit stocks?

The only cause Gore is sincere about is money and power.

>>Does this mean I should sell short on Gore’s carbon offset credit stocks?<<

Yes.

But just because Gore is trying to exagerate and exploit this doesn’t change reality.

Since the Reagan administration we’ve had agencies studying the rise in sea level. Over the next century, if the current trend continues this can become a problem for low lying coastal areas.

Contrary to what Gore would suggest the sea level rise will be a few feet not tens of feet. But its worth watching and studying.

This is another great counter to the global warming perspective.

The author Taylor cites seven major claims made by Gore, all of which are directly addressed, contradicted, and disproven (or shown to be unprovable) by scientists writing in reputable scientific publications.

Taylor then has the wry gallows humor to ask "Each of these cases provides an opportunity for Gore to lead by example in his call for an end to the distortion of science. Will he rise to the occasion?"

Mr. Taylor, welcome to the growing ranks of us heretical "deniers". And don't expect an answer to your challenge.

I doubt he ever will. He's just a cheap used-car salesman that won't admit his merchandise has some faults.

The fallout from the actions of this moron will be that serious pollution problems will be dismissed as just more alarmist talk....and we really don't need that right now.

No, actually, I believe, the Kilimanjaro ice cap is shrinking because of deforestation near its base. The source of moisture was condensate from the surrounding jungles.

No less a source than PBS did an hour piece a few months ago on why the glacier was disappearing. Their conclusion was internal heat was returning.

We are both retailing second hand information. I got mine from a Swedish oceanologist and global warming skeptic.

Either way, there are other explanations. In the case of Himalayan glaciers, experts say that there is no need to seek a cause, the basic premise (shrinkage) is false.

How long can a “theory” that needs to be propped up with lies and exaggerations hold?

A long, long time. Look how long eugenics has been around. Or Phrenology.

Global warming is not a theory, it is a religion. It could be snowing in Miami every summer for a decade and the believers will still believe.

Last weekend we sat on the deck of a friend. We were wearing jackets at the end of June in the middle of the day. One guy was crying about how global warming would kill us all. My tolerance was wearing thin.
