Is there anything worse than crass, big-budget hype over a little gadget for the rich? Michael Ramirez has his own ideas about this here.

Great visual.
Hahahahaha! That’s great
Just upsets me a little to see a skeleton covered by skin. They look like aliens.
Yes. Someone using images of famine and inhumanity in Africa to try to make people feel guilty for the innovations and niceties spawned by the free market.
I like cool gadgets as much as the next geek, but I’ll be damned if I’ll pay $500-$600 plus $100 a month service for some damn phone.
Did you see the picture of the iLoser waiting in line since Monday to be the first person to buy one?
Maybe I will wait til the 2nd generation comes out or the Samsung knockoff comes out.
What a dope!
Especially when that famine and inhumanity is a direct result of the lack of freedom in those places. Zimbabwe used to be the bread basket of Africa, and now it’s on food aid, all thanks to the wonders of communism.
(2) The iPhone is an incredible accomplishment and will transform communications in the USA in significant ways. It is science fiction come to life in a number of ways and is as different from a typical cellphone as a PC was from a mainframe.
(3) And no, I do not work for Apple or sell their products and I am not waiting on line for an iPhone and I will probably not get around to purchasing one for at least a year.
But I am a geek.
You don't have to wait ;)
Ramirez always has a fresh take on things, IMHO, and the examples of his work are very provocative.

I LOVE him! The best.
Timmy like the Samsung knockoff.
Ouch! Puts things into prespective, doesn’t it?
Liberal white guilt is a fresh take? I had to check and make sure a) this was really being posted on FR and b) it really came from Investor’s Business Daily. I don’t get how that happened. The cartoon’s retarded. The internet/mobile technology is a bit more than a fad. It’s up there with the printing press, radio, television. And I really don’t get what that has to do with Paris Hilton.
That's one way in which the free market lets the wealthy fund innovation. Just like with big screen tvs, or any other new technology, when it first comes up, it's super expensive, so only rich ppl buy it. But in a few years, it becomes affordable, and usually with some of the initial glitches already worked out.
What is this $1000 gizmo but a way to be really hip and lighten the bank account of the petit bourgeois soon to be begging for lunch money?
Perfect timing on your comment. I received an email from my ultra-liberal sister-in-law which used the exact images you described. Quote from the email "Let's try not to feed this endless cycle of consumerism and immorality in which this "modern and advanced" society forgets and ignores the other two thirds of our brothers and sisters."
A little off topic, but thanks for letting me vent. :)
