For The Record...A Series Of Fred Facts [Must Read]

Context: I voted twice for Bush 43. I did so, in large part, because he was moderately isolationist and had the promise of sufficiently greater Conservative Leadership principle and methodology than his opponent(s). And, I did so BECAUSE of his opponent(s).

Enter, post-inauguration, a rapidly collapsing dot com industry, and a budding recession. He talked of tax cuts, spending constraint, and Government growth caps. He had me at “hello.”

September 11, 2001 forever changed the man George W. Bush, along with the rest of the country and the world. I support the man still, as my President and as my commander in Chief, because I am an American first, and a Patriot always. While I may continue to wander further away from him on nearly EVERY domestic policy initiative, and fully expect to have little left to say in a positive tone about him when he leaves office regarding these things, I respect him for what he has tried to do for this country, and what he has been forced to endure in doing so. But he is leaving soon, and there is much to be done – both for the country, and for the Conservative movement that has been dramatically stalled in the last half of this Administration’s stay on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Whomever the Republicans stand up against the Democrats in the 2008 Presidential elections, Conservatism will be staring at one of the greatest challenges to confront it in, perhaps, a generation. Wisdom, restraint, and forward thinking BEYOND the next election cycle should be our greater modus operandi.

<snort!> Now I've got to clean up my keyboard.

I think this is the first time I've heard this particular label applied to him.

Fred has stated his case for Federalist principles, his voting records illuminates it- and it will be one of his strongest themes in the campaign.

Why I feel that Fred Thompson is the only one in the bunch that can revive that old-time religion of genuine Reagan-like conservatism. Its his remarkable ability to communicate, honestly and openly and with such flair.

A major irritation of the Republican base has been Bush’s trouble articulating. Given a prepared speech he can deliver it with the best of them, but slap a microphone in front of him like at a press conference and we Republicans cringe. His sloppy speaking style only serves to bolster the perception of his incompetence.

That is why the most important but least discussed asset we are looking for in a candidate is the ability to communicate, and Fred Thompson seems to be what we the Republicans are yearning for.

We need to not just get a victory in 2008, but we need to look beyond Bush and focus on the long term vision of the Conservative movement. Each of the candidates running have good attributes, and maybe just maybe a few of them have what it takes to beat Hillary, but where will they take the party?

Is this just about beating Hillary? Yea, we get some sweet revenge and put the Clintons in the history books forever, but we get four years of more of the same politics as usual in D.C. .
Or is this about a rediscovery of our values and our common sense as a Nation, and the resurgence of national pride? We need the President to be the “Nations President” once again.

It’s been written not long after the mess in Florida with the hanging chads, that to half the Nation, President Bush was their President, but to the other half he was not President at all. We can as Americans no longer afford to have that sort of a divide between our people. Ronald Reagan said he left the entertainment world for politics because he wanted to protect something precious. Well the office of President is something precious and the respect for it should be preserved. The President once again needs to be “Our President”, weather you voted for him or not. Out of all the potential presidential candidates, Fred Thompson is the one that can unite us and move us forward to better things.
In President Reagan’s Farewell Address he said, “I wasn’t a great communicator, but I communicated great things.” Fred Thompson is a communicator of great things and I am honored to be behind him.

It can be claimed that Bush campaigned as a “moderate isolationist” before the 2000 election. He changed dramatically after 9/11. From opposing “nation building” he became an ardent advocate of just that in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Fred is a candidate that would look beyond the next election cycle.

Our Republic is broken but not past the point of no return.

someone sent me this (I’m sorry I don’t know who said it)
America’s defining characteristic is freedom. Freedom exists when there are limitations on government, imposed by the principle of individual rights. America was established as a republic, under which the state is restricted to protecting our rights. This is not a system of “democracy.” Thus, you are free to criticize your neighbors, your society, your government—no matter how many people wish to pass a law censoring you. You are free to own your property—no matter how large a mob wants to take it from you. The rights of the individual are inalienable. But if “popular will” were the standard, the individual would have no rights—only temporary privileges, granted or withdrawn according to the mass mood of the moment. The tyranny of the majority, as the Founding fathers understood, is just as evil as the tyranny of an absolute monarch.
