To: El Cid
For the last 20+ years I've been taking those questionnaires (Census, etc) and putting a big 'X' through their 'ethnic classifications' and handwriting my own box with 'American' written next to it...

I go even one better. I write in "Native American," since I was born here, as were my parents. My four granparents were all Jews from Russian and Poland, but they're dead.

If anyone objects that only ummm... Indians ... can be called native Americans, I politely point out that the correct term for people in that group is "Aboriginal American."

Good. I've always had a problem with that particular category. If an American with parents from Asia and Europe isn't native to America, what country is he native to? What country is Tiger Woods native to?
