Dogs are smarter than people give them credit for.
To: BulletBobCo
Dogs and cats have known this for years.

This might be a case where the researcher got the results he wanted to get.

"You'd be surprised how clean the water is in a toilet." Bureaucrats, always putting the best face on things.

"You can drink this toilet water -- go ahead! No germs!"
"Really?"
I swear. It's perfectly safe."
"Okay. [glug.glug.glug] Hey my mouth is burning, what's going on?"
"Oh. That's probably just the chlorine bleach they pour all over the toilet every day."

swabbing the spigots of four fountains and sampling one toilet
Did he treat everything to mass doses of bleach first?

For an English assignment, he tested the bacteria content at four water fountains... Please explain to me how testing for bacteria is the job of the English teacher?
Gosh, (Unnamed English Teacher), I guess all your students will be getting perfect grades on their tests, since you've finished teaching them English and moved on to science.

A story exactly like this one was run a couple of years ago. Think this is a repeat.

I wonder how the sampling was done, Water fountains should be allowed to flow for several minutes before the sample is taken.
To: samtheman
I’d be interested in knowing where, on the spigot, this sample was taken. That said, the water fountain surfaces should be cleaned regularly. The janitors on our campus do that daily.

Toilets are flushed more than the fountain is used, changing the water more frequently...duh!
To: Clara Lou
I’m skeptical. I think the kid wanted to make a big splash, and protest the bottled water ban at the same time.
Would this be a story if he’d found more bacteria in the toilets?
He wanted a story. He got a story.

Did anyone check if the school had an outhouse?

(Just my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary.)

Please explain to me how testing for bacteria is the job of the English teacher? From the article: Katherman attends the Oregon Coast Technology School that operates at North Bend Middle School with a focus on infusing technology into all areas of study.
