While I am certainly not arguing in favor of the original poster's thesis, I disagree that Bush will be remembered as a great president. Distant, unfocused, and uninterested is how I think he'll be remembered.
It's a shame. Imagine what a real leader could have accomplished when his party controlled both houses of congress.
We have JD Hayworth on the radio here now. I was listening yesterday afternoon and he recounted a conversation he had with the President while he was still in the House.
He tried to open up a dialogue about illegal immigration and how his constituents felt about the issue.
He said he got about five sentences into it and the President looked at him with a cold, dismissive stare and said, "Stop harassing me". End of discussion.
