Bob Corker Backing Thompson For President posted June 4, 2007
Sen. Bob Corker said Monday he is backing former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson for President, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported.
The newspaper said Corker was interviewed after a luncheon in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee.
He told the paper he expects Thompson will make the race.
Congressman Zach Wamp has been one of the leading Thompson backers and us credited with being the first person to call him and ask him to run.
Corker called Thompson thoughtful, independent and a great communicator

more good news on the fred front
I can’t wait until he makes it official. I sure hope he will pick Charlie Daniels for Vice President.
*barf*
The Bush domestic policy team stunk up the joint. And now Fred is going to that well? Ouch.
I could swear someone here at FR is either friends or related to Putnam.
Why do I picture Fred sending a video announcement of his intention to run to all the conservative blog sites about 4 a.m. Eastern on July 4?
I agree. None of that sounded good to me.
I agree, Thompson should come out with a brand-new team of conservatives instead of looking at the past.
The Dalton Gang is invading Florida.
Fred is the synergistic candidate we’ve been waiting for.
FRed-perfect.
Frederalist, Freducation, Fredcare, Fredicare, etc., etc.
FDT - He delivers!!
Anyone have the picture of the florist?? Maybe Fred in that pose delivering the constitution instead of a dozen roses.
Fred makes everything fun again. PLUS-, he’s the best candidate by a long shot, he pillories the “Big 3” (Rudy, Mitt, McCain).
We’re not going to get any better, I like that he’s put his positions on paper and verbally via radio addresses, he doesn’t need to consult with someone on his postions. If he sticks to the positions he’s outlined I have no problem with Fred, better than that, I’m ENTHUSIASTIC about Fred.
I haven’t been enthusiastic about our nominee in 88,92,96,00, and 04. I voted for them because I HAD to, not because I WANTED to.
I WANT TO VOTE FOR FRED!!
How so? What executive and leadership experience does he have? Apart from McCain-Feingold, what important legislation was he responsible for in his eight years as a senator?
You are wrong. Lindsey was one of the architects of the tax cuts...he’s not in the administration now. Bush’s early domestic policy was very good. This is a good sign. Or do you think tax cuts “stunk up the joint.”
“I WANT TO VOTE FOR FRED!!”
So do I! I also want to help out with his campaign here in Florida. Anyone know his official campaign web site? Heard it was to be up and running today. Thanks! :)
Tax cuts are dandy. Fundamental tax reform is better. The Bush team didn’t have the guts for that kind of leadership, though.

Executive experience didn’t help Jimmy Carter keep from becomming a national disaster. Nor did it help George W. Bush persuade the Congress to initiate restirement savings accounts or drill for oil in the ANWR.
The lack of executive experience didn’t prevent Abraham Lincoln, Harry S. Truman or John F. Kennedy from making crucial decisions in our nation’s history.
Just like he shepherded John Roberts’ nomination through the Senate, Fred Thompson guided the first Homeland Security bill through.
*
Fred Thompson sponsored or co-sponsored 90 pieces of legislation, most of it aimed at increasing our national security against terrorism, providing tax relief to citizens and small businesses, and cutting government red tape.

Other Important Proposals and Inclusions Introduced by Fred in the Senate:

You think a liberal Dem like Richard Cohen is “friendly” to Thompson??
How so? What executive and leadership experience does he have? Apart from McCain-Feingold, what important legislation was he responsible for in his eight years as a senator?
__
I’m in agreement with most of his positions, he’s asked for and I’m granting him a mulligan on McCain/Feingold.
Look, I could be a great President, I wouldn’t waffle on any of my positions and know what I believe is the right thing to do. I wouldn’t be infulenced by ANYTHING other than what’s best for the U.S., I think Fred will be motivated in this fashion as Prez also, he doensn’t strike me as a “political creature”. He has nothing to lose by sticking to his guns, he’s got plenty of money and a hot wife, what can happen? he won’t get a second term? I’m hoping he thinks the same way, he’ll do what’s right and to hell with the consequenses and outrage of the big media.
I don’t care what legislation he was responsible for, he’s going to be the executive, the bandleader, etc.
