Your Repub reasons are far too cynical. The reason Repubs want to pass a bill is to document undocumented workers. We need low cost labor in labor intensive low paying jobs. They used to be entry labor, but too many of us have passed those jobs by and have become professionals.

Most of us don’t want our own kids doing them so we send them to college to bypass those jobs. The Mexicans are happy to do them since it is 20-50 times what they make down there, so kumbaya thats Capitalism.

Where can we fill those labor intensive jobs w/o Mexican labor?

Pray for W and Our Troops

Brilliant expose here, when I chatted with Mark Levin the other night he was very careful to state that he was very much in sync with GW on the war but disagreed with him on securing the border, but many don’t make the trip.

Ok, so you think it will pass the Senate. So how about the House?

Because they are in school. Mowing lawns and washing cars has become a 9-5 job. The kids are only available after 4 and during the summer. With rotating years only 1-2 months a year. HS kids are no longer an option especially w/labor laws.

Perhaps you could personally pull Txsleuth & bray through your computer and, thence, all huddle together in your life boat, waving your little white flags.

Yes...and I saw a thread with the transcript of one of algore’s TV appearances...and even HE is spouting the BS that Saddam was NO threat to us...and that Bush just concocted that in order to take us into war.

My goodness, this man was the VPOTUS during the time that speech after speech by Clinton was NOT about al-queda in Afghanistan...but Saddam in Iraq. His POTUS bombed Iraq long before Pres. Bush got there.

BUT, to the MSM and the anti-war crowd, GORE is the honest person in this debate.

I swear, Fox News could cull all of the news reports, Clinton speeches and newspaper stories from the early 90’s until 9/11....and IF anyone watched it...they would really shake their heads over the rhetoric coming out of Gore, Clinton (both)...and the MSM...

I know, but perhaps Sessions is signaling his own disgust

Is Session anti Immigration bill? I thought he just got booed at an event back home last week because he is NOT against the bill? Doesn't sound very Anti in this Press Release. Sounds pretty wobbly. Statement of U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions on Immigration Negotiations ************************ Friday, May 18, 2007 U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today regarding comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the Senate: "I will not vote for, and will actively oppose, immigration legislation that does not meet the expectations of the American people on important issues such as border security, citizenship, and a transition to a merit-based 'points' system. "I am deeply concerned with the compromise announced yesterday. Both the process by which the bill will be considered in the Senate and the content of the proposal are troubling. Supporting an agreement on such a complex and important issue cannot be justified when legislation has not yet been written. I will be carefully reading the bill, expected to be about 800 pages, to determine whether the details of the legislation have merit."

He’s wrong because he’s not thinking deeply enough about the issue. And I simply responded, in kind, to his arrogant prose. He and his posse then became unglued.

If Mark Levin is level headed enough to separate the two issues, then one would think that a "distinguished" senator such as Sessions could do the same.

Oh well.

I see that you can post a reasonable..and intelligent post.

I also see your point, and I agree with you.

I think what bray and I are saying is...if we acknowledge that is SOME cases we NEED the extra workers...a system of a temporary worker..who only works here..and then goes back to his home country, where his family lives should be worked out.

Also..that is all predicated on getting the border secure most importantly.

Honest opinion, not spin. Do you think this Immigration bill has will pass?

I believe it will pass the Senate largely intact. The House will be a different matter in terms of how the bill emerges, but I believe it will come out of the House narrowly with most of the so-called Dem concessions modified or removed, e.g., guest worker program, merit based immigration vice chain migration, etc. The enforcement part will probably be strengthened to get more Rep and blue dog Dem votes. The House represents our best hope of killing the bill. Once it goes into conference, there will be lots of negotiations to keep the "bipartisan" coalition together.

I think it is 50/50 that the final bill is passed. The Dems first and main objective is to legalize the status of the 12 to 20 million illegals. They can change the provisions they don't like in subsequent Congresses. The Reps who are trying to sell us this amnesty want some sort of guest worker program and an increase in the number of H1B visas. If that is part of the final bill, they are happy.

Ultimately, the turncoat Reps are going to be very unhappy as this bill morphs into something else, especially if the Dems take over the WH. It will become less business friendly and more to the liking of La Raza and the unions. The Dems need "bipartisan" cover to make this happen. They don't want to be tagged as the ones responsible for this bill that will eventually change the very nature of this country. As the problem metastasizes around the country, it is going to be quite clear that we have made a Faustian bargain and a colossal mistake. And there will be a new crop of illegals coming into replace those newly-minted legals who have lost much of their attractiveness to employers. The Dems can then point to the fact that this was a bipartisan bill and signed by a Rep President. So the buck stops with the President.

The idea that the US economy must import millions of high school dropouts, many of whom don't even speak English, is absurd. And what happens when we move into an economic downturn and unemployment goes to 6%? Unlike widgets, we cannot move people out who have been legalized. They will become an increasing drain on our schools, hospitals, and local welfare systems, for which the federal government and business do not have to foot the bill. By 2030 we will have 70 million people of retirement age, twice as many as we do now. They will see their state and local taxes, e.g., property taxes, going up to support school expansion, etc. cutting into their fixed incomes. And our health care systems will be stressed to support these additional requirements. God help us.

Screaming hate at everyone who does not bow down and worship at your personal political opinions is the behavior or a spoiled brat, not a rational adult mind. That is TROLL behavior. See a "Troll" is one who goes trolling around the 'Net trying to pick fights. So far that is ALL you have done. So when you can engage in rational adult debate, try again, until such time we simply are going to IGNORE you. Pretty much defeats your purpose to post here if everyone simply sees your post says " Not this screaming moron again" and stops even bothering to even read a word you post. So sober up, grow up and calm down or simply quit wasting our time.

Gritty, those are very astute observations. Sessions thinks this immigration bill is terrible. He has tried his heart out to explain that. He had breakfast with the President recently and tried to tell him, warn him, but to no avail it seems.

Not all tax redcutions "given" to corporations are uniformly applied tax reductions. There are targeted tax reductions. That happens especially at the local level for corporations. Are you against those type of tax reductions for corporations?

You bet your boots I am! That is a BIG part of what is wrong with our current tax code and why Washington is FULL of K Street lobbiest!

If corporations are already paying an unfair high rate of tax and if a tax deduction targeted to a corporation can prove to be beneficial to the local municipality, then I would be for it.

Of course better yet, more fair, not "progressive" tax rates would be the best way to go.

The reason I posted what I did, is that the Statesman had an AP article critical of cankles. Of course, it was on the back page of the front section. Had this been a hit piece on Tom DeLay or any other Republican, it would have been on page A-1 above the fold. I despise the DBM like never before.
