Tucsonans disagree whether McCain should resign

An Arizona state lawmaker is calling for U.S. Senator John McCain to resign.

State Representative Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican, says McCain is spending too much time on his Presidential campaign and missing too many Senate votes.

According to the Washington Post, McCain missed almost 50% of Senate votes during the current session. The only other senator with a worse record is South Dakota's Tim Johnson, who is recovering from a brain hemorrhage.

Pearce says, "I am calling on the Senator to show up and vote, or if he's going to be a fulltime candidate, then yes, he ought to resign and let somebody take that position that's going to represent Arizona and be there to vote."

McCain's spokesperson issued this statement, "The Senator is committed to representing the people of Arizona and has not missed one vote where his participation would have affected the outcome."

Tucsonans have mixed reactions to the call for McCain's resignation.

Tommy DiMaggio says, "He's been running for President for 10 years. I mean how can you be in the Senate and be running for the Presidency for 10 years? He's spread himself way too thin."

Crystal Caulfield says, "Our state should be the first priority because he is an Arizona Senator. So he should look out for Arizona more than trying to get a bid for the Presidency."

Michael Herzog says, "Our elected representatives should first of all represent us and not worry so much about their personal aspirations."

Larry Carter says, "That's what we pay him to do. So he should do his job, what taxpayers pay him to do. If he's not willing to do his job, he should resign."

Tim Sultan disagrees. He says, "I think what people ought to look at more is his record in the choices he's making in representing Arizona and not so much his attendance in the Senate."

Douglas Levy says, "If his vote on particular issues doesn't really mean anything to the outcome, I don't think he needs to be there, to be on the Senate floor."

Gray Wolf says, "If there's anything that's really crucial, life threatening, he'll be there. He's handling it."

Sure.

Start a groundswell to have him resign so that his replacement can be designated by Janet Napolitano - Democrat.

Feel the burn John, while your aspirations have finished circling the drain and have now been flushed away.

But the numbers were close.

I was thinking that he should be given a Stetson, placed astride a bunker buster, and allowed to do his Slim Pickens’s ‘Dr Strangelove’ impersonation over Iran. Yeeeeee-haaaaaaa.

Senator McCain’s attendance record in the Senate is an issue for the residents of Arizona to judge. However, I object to McCain’s tirade of insults and profanity directed at my Senator from Texas when he mentions that McCain isn’t around much these days. McCain’s constituents at home are also noticing his divided loyalty. I expect that McCain would like to cuss out the folks at home too.

I would have said the causes were similar.

What difference would it make? He votes with the dimwits as often as he votes with the Republicans.

He would still have to be replaced with a Republican.

Not only should we demand McCain resign, we should also demand that Kyl resign.

The Z Visa is amnesty. Illegals can just stay and will immediately become legal although they will eventually have to apply for regularization.

To be allowed to stay is AMNESTY

Right.

I had forgotten that AZ had a law stating that the replacement had to be of the same party.

Hmmm.

He should resign

I do not think it possible to replace him with a worse senator. I do not think even Jim Kolbe would be worse.

“Our Governor WOULD replace him with a worse senator...”

I have no doubts. Probably replace him one that will switch parties as soon as possible.

Maybe she’ll pick Jim Kolbe, and then she’ll say “HA!”
