The Egyptians built quite a number of pyramids , most made out of sun-dried brick, in the hundreds of years their culture existed before they built the Great Pyramids.
Probably thousands of years. The most incredible thing about the Egyptians was the duration of their civilization, absolutely dwarfs any western civilization that I am familiar with.
