Thanks for saving those for us. I can’t believe that McCain’s people have not deleted those yet - they’ve been on for several days now. Do they never check their own website? I do hope they copy them all & give them to McCain so he can see them. He needs to know how he is seen by the American people.

We need to do the same thing to Bush - he has betrayed us terribly here.

I just signed on (as an Arizonan, he *is* my Senator) and posted the following:

Mr. McCain,
I admire your perseverance as a POW.
I agree with your preservation of the 2nd Amendment, on your skepticism concerning man-made global warming, and your support on the War on Terror and "doing it right" on Iraq.
But on the US-Mexico border you are way off base.
In particular, consider these three sections of the bill...
The first one says that the US government will create grants to help illegals become citizens:

"SEC. 643. STRENGTHENING AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP.

(a) Short Title- This section may be cited as the `Strengthening American Citizenship Act of 2007'.

(b) Definition- In this section, the term `Oath of Allegiance' means the binding oath (or affirmation) of allegiance required to be naturalized as a citizen of the United States, as prescribed in section 337(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as added by subsection (h)(1)(B).

(c) English Fluency-

(1) EDUCATION GRANTS-

(A) ESTABLISHMENT- The Chief of the Office of Citizenship of the Department (referred to in this paragraph as the `Chief') shall establish a grant program to provide grants in an amount not to exceed $500 to assist legal residents of the United States who declare an intent to apply for citizenship in the United States to meet the requirements under section 312 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1423).

(B) USE OF FUNDS- Grant funds awarded under this paragraph shall be paid directly to an accredited institution of higher education or other qualified educational institution (as determined by the Chief) for tuition, fees, books, and other educational resources required by a course on the English language in which the legal resident is enrolled."

--OK, so I agree that English fluency is an important step to assimilation. That is good. (Even though to first appearances, it looks like we are trying to help illegals *become citizens* -- which is amnesty.) But $500 per person times (let us hope for the best, that they *all* want to assimilate) 12 million is $6 billion. This is not "revenue neutral" as I believe the saying goes. How will you pay for this? And who will score and administer the tests of fluency?

Now look at the idea of humane treatment of those slotted for deportation...

SEC. 220. ALTERNATIVES TO DETENTION.

The Secretary shall conduct a study of—

(1) the effectiveness of alternatives to detention, electronic monitoring devices and intensive programs, in ensuring alien appearance compliance with removal orders;
(2) the effectiveness of the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program and the costs and expanding that program to all States; and
(3) other alternatives to detention, including—
(A) release on an order of recognizance;
(B) appearance bonds; and
(C) electronic monitoring devices.
--Remember the "Fort Dix Six" who consipired to kill *hundreds* of US troops at a military base? They had been in the country illegally since the 1980's!!! Don't you think that international terrorists acting as sleepers would have access to plenty of cash to post appearance bonds? "We are merely hard-working roofers, pursuing the American dream. Don't take our business from us!"

And finally this little gem:

Section 601(h) Treatment of Applicants

(1)IN GENERAL --An alien who files application for Z-nonimmigrant status shall, upon submission of any evidence required under paragraphs (f) and (g) and after the Secretary has conducted appropriate background checks, to include name and fingerprint checks, that have not by the end of the next business day produced information rendering the applicant ineligible

(A)be granted probationary benefits in the form of employment authorization pending final adjudication of the alien's application;

(B)may in the Secretary's discretion receive advance permission to re-enter the United States pursuant to existing regulations governing advance parole;

(C)may not be detained for immigration purposes, dteremined inadmissible or deportable, or removed pending final adjudication of the alien's application, unless the alient isdetermined to be ineligible for Z nonimmigration status; and

(D) may not be cosndiered an unauthorized alien (as defined in Section 274A(h)(3) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1324a(h)(3))) unless employment authorization under subparagraph (A) is denied

--So the INS (only slightly less competent than the TSA or the Post Office) has *24 hours* to find dirt on an applicant, or a "shall issue" is mandated on the Z-visa. This is amnesty. BTW, can't we have such clear language on background checks for gun owners?

One last unrelated comment: McCain-Feingold is unconstitutional. Just because the Supreme Court gave it a pass (like Dred Scott) does not make it right.

If you continue to support this immigration bill, you will no longer have even token support (as a Republican) from me.

I Am An American

There have only been two days in my life when I felt sick in the pit of my stomach for America. September 11, 2001 and today, May 17th, 2007.
Today I learned that I have been betrayed by my President, my Senate, and my Political party. Today I learned that the citizenship I have treasured so much has been reduced in value to nothing by some. Today I learned that to some, I have no voice.
Today I learned a hard truth. To some, the American dream is only the dream of the immigrant and not the right of the home grown citizen. Today I learned that my country is not solid as stone but rather it is transient like a ripple on a lake. Today I learned that my home is no longer my home. My people are no longer my people. My leaders are no longer my leaders. Today I learned that my president has a price. My senate has a price My political party has a price. Today I learned something else too; I learned that they can’t break me.
Because I am an American. I can not be bought. I can not be sold. There is no price on my citizenship. There is no price on my love of country. There is no price on my loyalty to America and her ideas. While others whom I should be able to trust conspire against me, I sit and contemplate. I sit and remember. I sit and cry.
And I make a firm resolution. I am going outside to raise my flag and shine a light. Tonight I am going to rest, and break bread with my family. I will watch a silly movie to restore my soul. I will take a bubble bath and burn a candle.

I will try to say what I think happened in 2006. It was not the voters that decided to sit home that gave us this outcome but rather, I believe illegals were exactly why those voters decided to sit at home. Why bother when your voice means nothing and if this passes it will surely mean nothing.

Iraq was only part of the reason. I really believe illegal immigration (operative word being illegal) is the real reason people sat home or changed their affiliation. I just don’t believe the majority of voting people put any more thought into their vote beyond that which actually affects them and their tax dollars. I think all the polls, pundits and talking-heads misrepresented the outcome of 2006 by using the war as the issue and I believe they did it intentionally. It seems apparent to me that the impact of illegal immigration and an upcoming amnesty program was a bigger concern to those in the middle of both parties. There was little or no expectation that Congress would do the right thing.

In any case, if this passes the American people (citizens) are the real losers, but then, what do our civil servants care thus the reason 2006 occurred. It would be a reverse picture had the Democrats had been the majority. It clearly demonstrates how little either party cares about the American citizens.

I think I may become apolitical because I am sure sick to my stomach over this amnesty crap.
