Santa Fe cops may recruit Mexicans Wednesday, May 16, 2007
SANTA FE The Santa Fe Police Department is considering the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals to fill vacant police jobs.
Sgts. Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk, who are in charge of the department's recruiting and training, said Tuesday they are considering alternative approaches to fill 20 vacancies on the city's 155-person police force.
For the plan to work would require changes to the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations that prohibit those who aren't citizens from serving as police officers.
Alessio said the Santa Fe police force, like others around the country, is vying to recruit the same 21- to 30-year-olds as the U.S. military, whose need for recruits is taking a toll on the police department.
The United States speeds up naturalization for foreigners who enlist in the U.S. military, and Alessio asked, "Why can't we do that with law enforcement?"
ping.
I somehow feel that they would not hesitate to shoot one of their ‘nationals’.
JJ I wouldn’t listen to Mexican National cop forget it I listen to LAPD officer than this
Many law enforcement agencies are hurting for recruits. In the 80s everyone wanted to be cops. Few do now. To much risk, and personal legal liability are a few factors.
Well, lets just cordon off areas in large cities that are not able to be policed safely...No cops in or out. Let’s see what the citizens do ....
Ok , how about this. Double police income and lets see how many vacancies there are.
Nodding.
Didn't Horryweird give us a movie about that?
Kurt Russell - something 'New York' - forget (too lazy to go look it up).
“Escape from New York”, and it’s sequel “Escape from L.A.”
Escape From New York. The sequel was Escape From LA.
I see that we watch the same movies . . . .
Given the massive corruption in the Mexican police funded by the narco-traficantes why, oh, why would an honest American cop seek job applicants from that cesspool?
And when did Sgts. set policy? Something smells worse than a cabbage and bean burrito fart.
It seems to me that their oath of office would be a real problem - which Constitution would they be referring to?

They should be brought up on charges of treason.
thanks!

Oh please.
IN the 1980’s to early 90’s our forces were much larger. Didn’t need to import Mexican leo’s.
Probably the “unspoken” issue is cheap pay.
Doing jobs Americans don’t want to do.
Deputizing illegal foreign nationals to perform domestic law enforcement sounds pretty damn treasonous to me too.
scratch the illegal part
