It relies on users to specify their ages? I guess that's working out just the way the pervs want it to.

Yeah, because pervs can’t use any other site for the same purpose. This ridiculous move is just another anti-Myspace ploy because they’re the top dog right now. How the hell is Myspace even supposed to know who is a sex offender? People don’t use their real names most of the time - sex offenders would be least likely to do so.

If they’re so worried about sex offenders, why release them from prison?

MySpace.com is nothing but trash. There’s little 6th graders posting suggestive come-ons and provocative pictures. What blows my mind is their parents who obviously don’t care that their kids do this or simply can’t be bothered. The first defense against predators are parents.

yeah, but mostly the kids lie about their ages...make themselves seem older. I cut myspace off after, a friend of my daughter put her full name on her page
I called the Mom when that did not good, I contacted myspace-it was gone in 30 minutes, but I still think it’s dangerous for teens. Lately the kids have been posting video’s of taped fights-pretty violent.

I’ve got a Myspace under my FR screen name (I get nothing there but spam). But I don’t recall a box that said “check here if you are a sex offender.” If there was one, would anyone check it?

Hell, I don’t even remember being asked for my real name or address.

This sounds all backwards. But in any case, when they start collecting e-mail addresses expect the porn/spam merchants to go after those lists. Talk about a highly-qualified list of potential customers!

Law enforcement agencies have identified more than 200 cases nationwide of children "lured out of their home by predators they met on MySpace,"

By "predators" do they mean registered sex offenders, or were there those who weren't? BTW, I seem to recall that in this state we now have the crime of "luring" (I don't have the legal definition of that).

Yes, you self-report age, name, and location.

The only real ID you give is the DNS number you post or lurk from.

It’s like Free Republic- anonymous to those without a warrant.

Creating a false identity or DBA or nickname is not a crime if you do not intend to do harm, though I think Myspace has in their T&Cs rules that you must say who you reallly are.

This is one reason the libs want to do away with web anonymity, that and they wanted to find Buckhead and KCTanker right quick.
