Participants reflect on food stamp challenge -- They say they ate healthfully on limited budget
Salem Oregon Statesman Journal | May 8, 2007 | Timothy Alexakimoff

This article comes from the Salem Oregon Statesman Journal which doesn't allow posting. However, the story was too good to pass without providing a link.

Essentially, the state's left wing governor and this left wing rag challenged anybody to see if they could get by on the state's $21 per week food stamp allowance.

Several individuals picked up the glove and found out that people can do this just fine providing they give up eating out several time each week. Furthermore, they discovered that when they stayed home and cooked meals, folks spent more time together as a family. And they even had leftovers.

The article also provides a menu of what they ate.

Of course, before you Freepers become too excited, you should know that these poor people were also forced to go without cigarettes and beer. Therefore, food stamp amounts are still far too low, and we need to get out of Iraq, and we need to cut our carbon footprint, and we need Hillarycare, and most of all we need much higher taxes to pay for all this.

Let get this right; you want them to raise the amount they receive so they can buy beer and cigarettes??? You are out of your fricking mind, if they need beer and cigarette’s, they can get a job.

I see Corrie liked the Frosted Mini Wheats.

While not on food stamps I’m amazed to see what people with EBT’s have in their carts compared to mine.

Me? Price reduced steaks are fair game for tonight’s grill.

In other words, this would not work for Democrats.

Just what kind of attitude would that be. A Sarc tag would have made it clear as it is my day was not all that great so cut me some slack.

That of a cold hearted republican that doesn't believe in free beer and cigarettes for folks unwilling to work.
