“MEMRI is a total anti-Arab propaganda machine. This sounds like a bunch of unverifiable BS. I mean, how do we know these chatrooms even exist? Where are the links to these chatrooms?”
You’re kidding, right?
“While I do think that MEMRI is biased, that wasnt really the point of my comment. It was a lead-in to the punchline of the last sentence. ASA Vet got it.”
Biased! Yes how DARE they translate Arab state media to English!
You sound like a Democrat - where quoting someone in their own words is biased hate speech.
“Any source that cherry picks the stories it focuses on is going to have a substantial bias. It’s inevitable. MEMRI clearly chooses only stories that make Arabs look like total loons. Now, it could be the case that they are loons, but I’m not going to take the word of a very narrow filter such as MEMRI as a credible source. “
Just how many clips showing Thomas Jefferson like, classical liberal ideas? Showing Saudi womens basketball? Pro-American pundits? Arab research institutes curing diseases or inventing medication? None... because it doesn’t happen.
They aren’t cherry picking - they are translating Arab textbooks and the most popular Arab programs.
You are an apologist, and in deep denial.
“Man, you’re just proving my point. You *don’t know* what Arabs think or see - all you know is what MEMRI shows you, which is clearly a narrow selection of kooks.”
Right, like the time I watched Al Jazeera and they broadcasted a biography/documentary on Adolph Hitler... followed by one on Ariel Sharon.
You’re acting like these shows are outliers - they aren’t - they are among the most popular shows on Arab state-owned (it all is) TV. This is what the Arab governments propagandize their citizens with. In other cases they show the occasional Arab dissident.
Here is a list of the recent MEMRI translations. Can you point out which are ‘cherry picked’ to make Arabs look loony? It’s a broad range of material.
