Resty, since you have obliquely raised the issue or living/following the Lord, allow me to add that Jesus paid the ransom due for ALL man’s sin, even those sins that happen AFTER we are born again. It didn’t take long for me to learn that tidbit though it took some time for me to realize that TRUTH in my living.
In the Old Testament there are HUNDREDS of commands that man must follow to obide by God’s law. It is easy to say, well... that’s the Old Testament, and we don’t need it anymore. But we learn in the New Testament that Jesus wasn’t throwing away the Old, he was the living fulfillment of all of God’s commands and better yet, God’s glory.
If each of us were to try to be perfect every day, we’d fail multiple times. We even know that THINKING an evil thought is repulsive to God, let alone doing an evil act. No one can rise to that type of scrutiny, save Jesus.
This “blanket forgiveness” that you mention gives us such freedom to live joyful lives. Like our earthly parents forgive us for our multiple errors as children, God reads our hearts, knows what our intentions are, hears our silent apologies and prayers offered to him, and allows us to take yet another breath, continuing on the human journey through the day... and into the years to come.
This blanket salvation of course was paid for on the cross, but it is such a comfort to me that my Heavenly Father... My Heavenly PARENT, knows me intimately and is with me every step of the way even if I stumble.
We all agree Jesus paid the ransom for all to be able to return home for those who accept and keep the Lord’s Covnants or you have no promise.
