LYING alongside one another, these beautiful babies look like they could have been born weeks or even months apart - in fact, they are identical twin boys, who were born with just a minute separating them.
Weighing in at a tiny 1.54kg, Byron Ryman's birthweight was almost double that of his brother Lincoln's, who was just 530g when he was delivered on March 15 at the Royal Hospital for Women at Randwick in Sydney.

When I was expecting my twins and was bedbound for 3 mos, I had to stop reading - this was one of the many problems that all the books talked about with multiple births - it made me feel like the odds were definitely very much against having two healthy babies. Thankfully, my little “chickens” did pretty well. Prayers for these little guys..

Am I the only one here was reminded of the scene in the Venture Bros when Dr. Venture eats his brother’s fetus in the womb. I think that actually could have happened in this case. Maybe they were supposed to be triplets ....
So excuse me, but there’s nothing funny here. My heart goes out to this family and these children. Until any of you smart-asses has walked a mile in the shoes of these parents or children, just keep your juvenile jokes to yourself.

As a father of a child who survived a difficult pregnancy in which the new baby's health was very much touch and go, I can attest that a little humor takes the edge off the situation.
Little Lincoln is undernourished, but according to the article he is gaining weight and his prognosis is excellent - he's even going home from the hospital.

I’ll bet that by age 5 they’ll be similar in size. Although Lincoln will probably be somewhat smaller, the difference will be much smaller by age 5, and by adulthood.

For the record I wouldn’t have made the joke if something had happened to either of those Children, I almost died during birth myself, and my family still makes jokes about the mess

I agree with you. I am very familiar with this. It is called twin to twin transfusion. Here is a brief description -
“Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome occurs specifically in identical twins sharing the same placenta. It is estimated to occur in 5-10% of identical twin pregnancies. In twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, the twins share not only the same placenta but some of the same circulation. This allows the transfusion of blood from one twin (the donor) to the other (the recipient). The donor twin becomes small and anemic, and the recipient twin becomes large and overloaded with blood.”
My twin boys were born at 27 weeks because this was happening. We caught it too late. Mark, the larger twin (3 lbs) died after 5 days of life. The excess of blood severely damaged his brain. My other son, Ian (1 lb 11 oz.), is now almost 14 years old and played baseball last night.
