Poland should also remove Soviet monuments - Katyn Committee

WARSAW, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - The time has come to remove Soviet-era monuments in Poland, a Polish public organization said Saturday echoing the Estonian government's decision to remove the Bronze Soldier statue in central Tallinn.
The Katyn Committee which is made up of relatives of Polish officers, who were executed on the orders of the Soviet authorities in the village of Katyn near Smolensk in western Russia in 1940, said just like Estonia Poland "suffered from the Soviet occupation, while Soviet monuments have always been the symbol of slavery and lies, as well as Russian chauvinism."
"The Katyn Committee expresses solidarity with the sovereign government of Estonia and approves its decision to remove the Soviet monuments, sites of the 'Red' empire," the committee said in a statement Saturday. "We are indignant at Russian official statements threatening to cut off diplomatic ties with Estonia."
The committee said that Soviet monuments were used to popularize the idea of the Soviet Army as a liberator of nations. The organization said it was a shame that millions [of Polish zlotys] of taxpayers' money was still spent annually on the conservation and maintenance in Poland of 2,000 Soviet monuments.
In 1940, a few thousand Polish officers taken prisoner during the 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland were executed by NKVD officers, the forerunner for the KGB. The Soviet Union admitted the massacre in 1990.
Seeing the villagers giving food and drinks to the soldiers was like my first tour of Germany in the ‘70s. We were helping get hay for their animals to the railheads during a severe drought. One farmer pulled up with a station wagon full of wurst, brot (rolls), and drinks, as a way of saying thank you.
Funny how the libs/Dems keep saying that everyone hates us.

There were catholic grave candles on many of the Soviet graves and recently placed, too. I take it all must be some form of "Stockholm syndrome" to you. If any of the American dead were to remained buried in Iraq, I wonder how well and for how long their graves would be preserved and kept...

You got me wrong. I was not talking about Polish pragmatism, I was speaking about the pragmatism of western nations in the late 30ties that had to be paid by the Poles because they trusted into a backing (i.e. by France or England) that was not there. De facto the Poles never had real allies. They were always alone.
You are wrong. Only Democratic Party administrations are “pragmatic”, just like Roosevelt in Yalta. Republican Presidents of the USA are full of honor and dignity and never betray their allies and friends.
That might be true but does not help you in your strategic situation. The problem with election-based systems like the US is, that after 4 or 5 years you have to deal with political change. Just take a look to Iraq. A operation that was started with much energy. Now the hard work has to be done and in America we are going to face the change to a new president. Now it would take even more stubbornness, patience, blood and money to win. BUT... ...if this new president is democratic and female she will surrender and the Iranians are going to take over because it is convenient. That means the sacrifice of all those fallen women and men is somehow senseless. Not to speak about all those decent Iraqis who will hang on the gallows for collaboration with the great "satan".
It happened already in Viet Nam and it can happen in Iraq soon.
What I want to say is that you can not trust in security matters into a superpower that is subject to permanent change only. We Germans have a bonmot: "Help yourself and God will help you". Therefore all decisions have to be done with responsibillity and brains. Acting on instinct/heart because of a pretended strength might be understandable but could lead straight into a disaster.
People who classify people just because of their nationality/heritage into animals or human beings are animals themselves. Be ashamed!
