US forces on Friday detained four members of a gang suspected of smuggling armour-piercing bombs from Iran to Iraq and sending back militants for "terrorist training", the military said. A statement from US command in Iraq said the suspects were picked up in an early morning raid on the east Baghdad suburb of Sadr City, a known stronghold of radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militia.
"The individuals targeted during the raid are suspected members of a secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq," it said.
The EFP is a form of roadside bomb in which the detonation of an explosive charge inside a steel tube causes a copper disk to deform into a fist-sized chunk of supersonic molten metal that can scythe through armoured vehicles.
American commanders say the design is exclusively Iranian and in January alleged that at least 170 US troops had been killed by EFPs since May 2004.
The statement also said that the gang had sent "militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training."

“Iraq is not acting like they recognize this.”
Are you serious?
Maliki (i.e. StorK): “What the hell are they supposed to do, your moron?
These guys are having their parliament members getting blown up in the Green Zone, and they need to worry about their border? Good luck on that one.
Maybe what they COULD do, is authorize (okay, I know, they really don’t have the military capability to authorize anything) a strike (U.S., of course, as a coalition partner) against Iran.
And then we launch surgical tomahawk and bomber strikes on Iran, at the behest of the recognized Iraqi govt. That is about as good as its going to get for the next five years.
Now did you stay at a Holiday Inn?
That partly is the result of good marketing by the Dems. One or two catch phrases that are easy to say over and over. Happened for Clinton in ‘92 (It’s the economy stupid!”) and (I feel your pain.)
The other part is that Conservatism takes more thought. Frankly I am more and more convinced the voting public can not handle that.
“Feelings” are easier for them to handle. No thought necessary, just react to what feels good. No factual rationalization required.
That is why the MSM can play such a big role in politics. All they market is sensationalism and that is diverting to the thoughtless masses.
Every day they have stories about how bad this great economy is, yet although it is far stronger and deeper than the Clinton economy the MSM and dems talk about how hard the average family has it.
Then, according to the polls, they get away with it and the voters feel things are going so wrong with their finances.
This is despite that fact that many if not most have gained back what they lost at the end of Clinton's term. But no one touts that from every soap box. No one lays out how great the average family has it and that tax cuts have made them richer and better off. So it is not real to the voter.
Weapons tech versus use in the oil industry are apples and oranges, but it might lead to people (in Iran) learning about shaped charges via oil applications and then use that expertise to develop weapons based on an offshoot of this technology.
There is a very famous weapon that is not mentioned in the article, which implies this technology is still classified.
That weapon is of concern...
>>Every time an EFP is used, we need to bomb a target in Iran - clandestinely.
Say nothing. Acknowledge nothing. Just destroy a military barracks, or an air base, or a Command and Control center, or the presidential palace. Make sure there are plenty of personnel killed or injured.
They will get the message.<<
Brilliant plan. I like it. One little problem, though: The first time such an attack was made, our electeds would have Dubya in the dock before the dust settled, and most of the stupid sheeple would be demanding his head.
LOL! Good one!
Iran is the enemy, just as sure as the Congressional Democrats are the enemy.
1) Persia has been at war with us since November 4, 1979. The mullahs are the ones who control literally everything. To include Ahmanutjob.
2) Mookie al-Sadr still lives.

And no, you're not going to Disney World.

There are some excellent thoughts on this very subject right here.

When you are fighting a politically correct war you have to let things like this slide.
“...you have to let things like this slide.”
Slide? Its like we are fighting in a water park.
Listen, either we as a nation mobilize for these wars, and go all out, regardless of the UN, EU, Pee-Yoo, or NATO, and do what we got to do, or we need to seriously re-think about what we are doing. Such as,
Take out the leadership in:
Syria,
Hizballah,
Iran,
...for starters.
Just think about what a better world it would be. Now, anyone pops up and starts acting Mr. Stupid, well, they get popped too. Otherwise, there is no “Global War On Terror” and it was all a con job so Arbusto could walk hand and hand in the Rose garden with Mr. Jihadi Jed Clampett.

You’re right, of course. They can be defeated by sandbags, which breaks up the slug. FWIW
We need to form and arm an insurgent force to go after the Iranian govt. Then arm them with the EFPs we capture and anything else we dig up in Iraq.
Considering Iran is a totalitarian govt, we should just assume that anything done by their people is condoned or facilitated by the govt of Iran.
IIRC, a declaration of war is supposed to come from Congress.
You think the Democrat Congress is going to stand up to Iran?
Do you believe it is okay for the President to start a war against a country on his own?
We have some very hard days, months and years ahead because we didn’t fight to keep Congress in 2006.
I was being sarcastic. Wars cannot be won by being PC. I agree with you. Stop worrying about some civilian getting injured and start killing the enemy and breaking things.
ha ha. sorry, usually i’m adept at catching bits like that as I’m a notorious purveyor of them.
