If this had been in S. Korea and an American student had committed mass murders; Americans would not be safe in public and embassies would be under seize. There would be anarchy in the streets of Seoul. You are absolutely correct. In fact, that happens even when an American serviceman accidentally kills a South Korean national in a traffic mishap.

One film called Welcome to Dongmakgol makes it honorable for Koreans to kill American troops during the Korean War. Im totally serious, you can probably Google the film and buy the DVD and watch it for yourself.
Correction: "...makes it honorable for SOUTH Koreans to kill American troops during the Korean War."

He moved to the U.S. when he was 8.
So? Doesn't mean he has always been living in the US since....
To: ribosomal soup
Weren't there large anti-American demonstrations in Korea after a US military truck accidentally killed two? This was mentioned on another thread.
I have seen on news anti-American picketing by South Koreans who just want us to leave their country.
To: ribosomal soup
I've spent much time in ROK and live in an area where there is a significant Korean population.
Basing your assessment of the Korean national psyche on a film as about as clever as some islamic nut case deciding that Tony Soprano is the proto-typical American....or blaming Charleton Heston for this slaughter.
Besides, other posters have shown your assumptions to be wrong. Have a nice day.

That would explain why Virginia Tech held back on Cho’s name. A cover up was in progress. Only I cannot figure out why they would want to do a coverup.
To: ribosomal soup
He still would have had to serve in the Korean military. This might explain why he was somewhat older than his classmates.
To: apocalypto
Maybe not a cover-up, maybe he really was just off the radar..

He moved to the U.S. when he was 8. Didn't that "mall shooter" move to the US when he was younger, too?

Its likely Cho learned his stuff there. South Korea, what a great ally she is."Likely?" He came here in 1992 when he was 8 years old.

‘South Korea, what a great ally she is.’
I’m a bit lost by this line of thinking. The kid moved here at age 7 or 8 and is now 23. He likely spoke better English than most Americans and is more American than Korean. This is about a nut job, end of story.
To: apocalypto
ROK sent 3,000 troops to Iraq but feel free to assume that the students who protest speak for the entire country.

I would not assume that any thinking went into that comment at all. You are right, this guy just snapped. Where he was born had nothing to do with it.

Somebody posted a link last night to a board with the gun dealer who claimed to have sold him the gun and who correctly said his name was Cho and the receipt was found on him.
