Yeah, the girl friend thing seems kinda hinky, if the shooter was the same in both cases. If the shooter in Norris Hall had TWO Nine MM guns with plenty of ammo, he went there with the intention of killing as many folks as he could. Maybe the guy who was planning to kill all those students in Norris was 'found out' by his girlfriend, so he killed her first, then high tailed it over to Norris.

I guess it is possible that the two are totally unrelated. Could be just a sad coincidence. One guy kills his girlfriend, then another guy, mad about who knows what, has made his way to the Engineering Dept. and starts killing folks.
