Climate Change Scenarios Scare, and Motivate, Kids
Washington Post ^ | April 16, 2007 | Darragh Johnson

...Alex Hendel of Arlington County is talking about the end of life on our beleaguered planet. Looking up to make sure his mother is following along, he taps the final stripe, which is so sparsely dotted it is almost invisible. "In 20 years," he pronounces, "there's no oxygen." Then, to dramatize the point, he collapses, "dead," to the floor.

For many children and young adults, global warming is the atomic bomb of today. .....

Parents say they're searching for "productive" outlets for their 8-year-olds' obsessions with dying polar bears. Teachers say enrollment in high school and college environmental studies classes is doubling year after year. And psychologists say they're seeing an increasing number of young patients preoccupied by a climactic Armageddon.

...."This message about global warming is so powerful," Bronstein says. "It gives me hope for the human race because people are responsive to it." He also encourages anxiety about the planet's future, comparing enviro-fears to "any suffering in your life: The first step is denial, and then there's a sense of doom, and then you have to get up and shake it off and change something."

Which is exactly what happened when 9-year-old Alyssa Luz-Ricca's mother returned from a business trip to Costa Rica with a T-shirt of a colorful frog and the words "Extinction is forever." Alyssa looked at the T-shirt and, she says, "I cried."

"She cried very hard," clarifies her mother, Karen Luz of Arlington.

"I don't like global warming," Alyssa continues, her eyes huge and serious behind her glasses, a stardust of freckles across her nose, "because it kills animals, and I like animals."....."I worry about it," says this girl who has yet to lose all her baby teeth, "because I don't want to die."

This is not funny. Its reminiscient of the the nuclear war fear that existed in the 1960’s with all those doomsday books and films.

This is LIBERAL activism at its "best." They've been pushing this in schools for 25 years. These kids parents were indoctrinated and now they're pushing their kids into activism.

It's in the churches too.

After 8-year-old Mollie Passacantando, daughter of Greenpeace USA's executive director, read a story about polar bears in class this year, the Fairfax County youngster and her friends spent recess marching around the playground with signs reading, "Stop global warming. Save the polar bears." A classmate taunted, "You can march all you want, but you're not going to save a single polar bear."

That riled Mollie up. With her father, John Passacantando, she started a blog to get the polar bear put on the endangered species list.

I talked with a greenpeace moonbat protesting out front the other day. She knew one or two facts and a lot of anticorporate propaganda. I pointed out that the old growth trees she was trying to save are carbon positive but replacing them with younger trees would sequester carbon. I talked about inexpensive ways to cool the earth if that becomes necessary. I pointed out that many of the people driving by would be out of work. She had a deer in the headlights look in between blurting out bits of memorized propaganda. Finally she said "I do not wish to speak with you any more".

It’s unconscionable for the eco-fanatics to use children in this way. But the “baby boomers” had their own “end of the world” scare-—nuclear war. We all survived that possibility (at least so far). The “eco-fanatic” scare is a lot less credible.

I remember UBER LIBERAL Jacque Cousteau talked about the Oceans turning to Syrup by the year 2000 around the Time they were talking about the Ozone killing us all by 2010 and Global Cooling and the tree huggers were in full bloom!

Now the Oceans are still swimmable investments on the coast are fine.. the ozone is ignored and the hole is still the same size.Global cooling is now miraculously Global warming. And we have more trees today than we did a Hundered years ago... I have learned that the environment is the Democrats new religion.. worshiping nature.

Remember when they 3 Fireman fried in Oregon in 2000 because they didn’t want to take water for the Firefightingplanes from a lake that had endangered species fish? or not wanting to Drill in alaska because of Polar bears? or Drill off the coast of california because some surfers complained...

....The “eco-fanatic” scare is a lot less credible.

When did credibility enter the picture? This continues the redistribution of wealth and works to diminish capitalist countries who produce through the use of resources.

More from the article:

At Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Laura Dinerman's AP environmental science class has grown by an entire classroom each year: She started with 22 students, is teaching two classes this year and next year expects to have 66 students -- at least three classes, "if it doesn't go up," she says.

Dinerman has also seen a blossoming interest this year in the school's environmental club (mission statement: "Change the World"). Just under 10 teenagers were active last year; 90 have signed up this year, an increase helped by an aggressive marketing campaign and Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." Gore is this generation's Bob Dylan; "Truth" is its "Blowin' in the Wind."

It's too early in the morning to be ill and throwing up. Hopefully reason will prevail and Gore will be "blowin' in the wind."

How long before these kids become cynical? If they start out being an activist at 8 or 10 and nothing at all happens by the time they are 18, will they still care? If we have entered a minima and they spend 7 months a month a year being cold, will they simply drop out of the Church of Gaia?

I have interveiwed several of these Environmental studies kids for part time work in my business. Not one, out of perhaps a dozen of them, had any science education. Every one had majored in something like Land Use Planning. By the age of 20, they were unemployable and looking for any kind of work, usually doing labor for organic farms.

If an entire generation is brainwashed and if they won’t even speak to those of us who have some science and some facts to back our conclusions, just who will they recruit and for what? Will it become trendy to burn all the carbon they can, to stay warm and “Warm The Planet”?
