Two U.S. senators went against their usual party lines today to defend and criticize Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Cali., over her recent trip to Syria.
Speaking with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, Penn., said the Democratic leader did the right thing by going to Syria and meeting with President Assad, a trip the White House denounced.
"She has a very prominent constitutional role in determining what's going to happen in the Iraq war," he said. "I don't think it is helpful for people in the administration to characterize her as being engaged in, quote 'bad behavior,' unquote."
But Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., felt very differently.
"I respectfully and strongly disagree with Arlen Specter and with Nancy Pelosi. I believe her visit to Syria was a mistake, that it was bad for the United States of America and good for the Syrians," he said.
Specter is a POS. He never should have been put in the job he is in. He is just positioning for what he sees as a socialist-dominated Congress coming up and he is spouting the party line. Another RINO that needs some lessons in party unity. Anyone who supports the CRIME of Pelosi, should be in the same jail with her.
Can we trade?
Lieberman often gets it right.
Specter is merely looking out for himself - it is the Pennsylvania voters who are to blame for keeping this undercover democrat in office.
To quote Algore in one of his stump speeches (see “The War Room”):
“Down is up, up is down!”
What is wrong with Arlen Spector?
Specter, the gift that just keeps giving.
Ehh, I did come to my senses. And voted. And still Pelosi was apparently 'elected' to Sec State.
Giuliani / Specter 2008
Because we need to be more moderate to win!
Hey numbnuts! She went to Syria, not Iraq! And she discussed Israel and Syria, not Iraq and Syria.
How did we get this clown Specter as a Republican?
If it weren’t for President Bush and Rick Santorum, Specter wouldn’t be auditioning to be Queen Nancy’s vassal now. Bush and Santorum pulled Specter’s buns out of the fire in the ‘04 GOP primary, giving him a narrow win over a real conservative American, Pat Toomey. Toomey wouldn’t be making asinine comments such as Specter made in this article.
Arlen Specter is one of Bush’s biggest mistakes...and it didn’t exactly help Santorum either.
About 75% of Freepers knew this was an egregious error. How could Rove and Bush get it so utterly wrong?
Bush deserves what he campaigned for in Specter’s re-election.
Not all PA voters, only the ones that thought they should vote the way President Bush and X-Senator Santorum said they should.
Which is the biggest reason Santorum lost his Senate bid. Lot's of older folks up here still hold that grudge against Santorum.
Arlen Specter is a sleazy POS, and I was amd as hell the Bush supported him against another Republican in 2000.
Now the cock roaches that Bush stood by are coming home to pay him back.
He should have also rep[laced ALL of Clinton’s DOJ appointments.
Always seems to be the worst strategic times when this guy sticks his own party in the back.
“Specter said: “She has a very prominent constitutional role in determining what’s going to happen in the Iraq war,””
I highly doubt that Specter has ever actually read the Constitution.
What has Spector ever done for the Republican party?
Arlen Spector is the only reason Clarence Thomas is on the Supreme Court today.
I dunno, but they did.
With slightly better "strategery", Toomey would be a U.S. Senator now.
And if Santorum had backed Toomey, and with Specter out of the way, we might have been able to keep Santorum as well.
Coulda. Shoulda. Didn't.
