If she is, that’s pretty ballsy. The Muhammedan would have torn her limb from limb if she had. You may remember that Pope Benedict was repeatedly threatened about attempting to pray during his visit to Hagia Sophia in Turkey. Pope Benedict wisely did not show any external signs of praying while he was there, which is good since the Western media would have accused him of inciting the Muhammedan mob.

It does look like she is making the sign of the Cross which would be appropriate in the front of the tomb of St. John the Baptist.
