Don't confuse terrorism with Islam, says EU

The European Union has drawn up guidelines advising government spokesmen to refrain from linking Islam and terrorism in their statements.

Brussels officials have confirmed the existence of a classified handbook which offers "non-offensive" phrases to use when announcing anti-terrorist operations or dealing with terrorist attacks.

Banned terms are said to include "jihad", "Islamic" or "fundamentalist".

The word "jihad" is to be avoided altogether, according to some sources, because for Muslims the word can mean a personal struggle to live a moral life.

One alternative, suggested publicly last year, is for the term "Islamic terrorism" to be replaced by "terrorists who abusively invoke Islam".

An EU official said that the secret guidebook, or, "common lexicon", is aimed at preventing the distortion of the Muslim faith and the alienation of Muslims in Europe.

"The common lexicon includes guidance on a number of frequently used terms where lack of care by EU and member states' spokespeople may give rise to misunderstandings," he said.

"Careful usage of certain terms is not about empty political correctness but stems from astute awareness of the EU's interests in the fight against terrorism.

"Terrorists exploit and augment suspicions."

Details on the contents of the lexicon remain secret, but British officials stressed that it is there as a helpful aid "providing context" for civil servants making speeches or giving press conferences.

"We are fully signed up to this, but it is not binding," said one.

However, Conservative MEP Syed Kamall hit out at the lexicon. "It is this kind of political correctness and secrecy that creates resentment among both the mainstream in Europe and in Islam," he said.

Meanwhile, UK Independence Party MEP Gerard Batten claimed that the EU was in denial over the true roots of terrorism.

"This type of newspeak shows that the EU refuses to face reality," he said. "The major world terrorist threat is one posed by ideology and that ideology is inspired by fundamentalist jihadi Islam."

And I suppose "Jihad" really means "Moral Equivalent Of War"??

Clarification. We have received a lot of complaints so we must reassure people that the latter term IS still OK (actually strongly encouraged) when used in the Christian context.

With the muslims now a large and growing portion of the populations of Spain, France, Germany -- EVEN NORWAY (who'da thought these people would like cold and snow?) -- these EU wussies are simply trying to stay alive and NOT have to leave home.

What they refuse to admit is that "home" won't be home under Sharia law and they'll either move, convert -- or fall under the sword.

We won't. Terrorism is a tactic that in some rare cases may be justified. Islam is a collective ego-mind delusion that never is. ;)

Very clever of mohammed to use the same word for personal struggle and World War III.

Whoops! Sorry!

But, in my defense... it's certainly *easy* to confuse the two.

Especially when the pedophile-worshippers seem to be the agressors in, oh, about ten out of ten conflicts worldwide.

Reminds me of the fool physician who sends a proven feverish TB patient back to work ... contagion is unimaginable, much less the epidemic to follow. The death and desolation will still happen, even if the physician is dead and gone to a just reward for willful blindness.

Old Europe has had it. They are constantly making concessions to their way of life. Mookie and his ilk will have no problems taking over.

It would be very interesting to see a list of all the world conflicts and the involved parties. I bet you are pretty close. I also bet someone will have that list up within 10 minutes.

Anything to hide the truth.

Islam is not a religion it is a cult. A death cult.

So we can print and draw pictures of Mohammad now? And there won't be any violent riots? No burned cars? No one killed or injured?

Cool.

Someone should print the pictures of Mohammad and then arrest the rioters. After all, they are the ones who have "hijacked Islam."

They had better build some really big jails, though.

Not only in a cave in Afghanistan, but in every place where there is an islamic terrorist organization, regime, or individual including in this cowardly Continent called Europe. The islamic terrorists will hit Europe so hard that they will be begging us to do something to save their butts, and my greatest concern is that the next wave of islamic terrorists will come to us carrying their EU passport where they do not need a visa to enter the US.
