Giuliani doubters in for Rudy awakening
The Boston Herald ^ | 03/18/2007 | Deroy Murdock

Posted on 03/18/2007 1:31:23 AM PDT by JohnSheppard

The same Beltway experts who declared Sen. John McCain of Arizona the GOP front-runner, even as he under-polled fellow presidential contender Rudolph Giuliani, now parrot equally dodgy concepts. When Republicans meet “the real Rudy,” they will abandon New York’s former mayor like cattle fleeing a burning barn. Then, the wobbly Washington wisdom continues, Giuliani’s three marriages, and his less-than-solidly-right-wing views on gays, guns and gametes will torpedo his buoyant presidential hopes.

These seers now detect unhappiness with the GOP aspirants. They cite a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll in which 26 percent of Republican primary voters were dissatisfied with Giuliani, McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, among others. However, 56 percent called these choices satisfactory. This mirrors the 57 percent of conservative Republicans who preferred Giuliani, versus 31 percent for McCain. More broadly, Republicans backed Giuliani by 38 percent to McCain’s 24, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s 10, Romney’s 8, and 2 percent each for Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

But what if voters like Giuliani better upon understanding his pre-9/11 performance? Educating Republicans on his complete mayoral record - and soon - may be Giuliani’s best bet for extinguishing the lingering grumbling about his candidacy.

You're claiming defending the Republic is pointless, so we might as well save our souls.

It is as if tax cuts, school choice, keeping nukes out of the hands of terrorists, preventing the Pelosi-Clinton government takeover of health care, keeping criminals in prison-- mean nothing to people if we're not on a 24/7 jihad against gays.

And throwing in the towel on defense and economics is the worst thing we can do. Social issues can always be changed. Roe v Wade was a judicial innovation in the 1970s, and it can be changed back. But once a Western democracy is saddled with government health care, it can never get rid of it-- one gets accused by people of the same mental aptitude as Francois that you hate the poor, the elderly, and the sick-- most people don't have the patience for careful argument. And once a great city like New York or Chicago is incincerated, we aren't going to get it back.

The problem with Rudy is that he is wrong on *all* the issues. Pro-life? Rudy's got a record of nominating democrats as judges by an 8-1 margin, supporting federal funding of abortion, and seeing abortion rights in the constitution. Support secure borders? Rudy's to the left of GW Bush on immigration, opposing English as an official language and turning New York into a sanctuary city. In fact, Rudy brings nothing to the table for conservatives of any stripe.

Yes, gangs are a problem. Please assure us that you'll quit throwing out insults as part of your routine responses and maybe we can talk about something substantive.

If you can't agree to that, then we have nothing to discuss and you honestly do not belong on this forum.

"A Giuliani presidency will be a victory for the left."

That is true, issue wise. But I would say, "A Giuliani win of the Republican nomination will be a victory for the left." If Rudy wins the nomination, the team of Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton will be in the White House!

That is just the problem... all talk, no action...

Now, what about illegals marching in the streets carrying signs that glorify Osama Bin Laden?

This time it's the liberal Boston Herald applying the lipstick to Rudy. Doesn't help though.

The left-wing media has two favorite candidates, and neither one is a Republican. They favor Rudy primarily because he will cost the Republicans enough votes to lose the election, thus securing a win for either Hitlery or Obama.

Hey, Sen. Daschel, there happen to be kooks everywhere and not all ideas were represented in those protests by just a few nutbags (probably paid for by The Workers Party) in assembly. It is more likely that the vast majority of immigrants were working a 12 hour day, that day, doing things that paid above minimum wage -- like framing/painting/dry walling a home, unloading a shipping container, or cleaning a retail store during non business hours.

Hell, if anyone can spot a nutbag, it would be someone with a penchant and proclivity for similar leanings...isn't that right, Puffster?

George Bush has lost the PR war to a bunch of people who blow up emergency rooms.

To be fair, the media through whom George Bush needs to communicate has chosen to take the side of those that tend to blow up emergency rooms.

You're claiming defending the Republic is pointless, so we might as well save our souls.

No, that's a wrong analysis of my post.

I believe defense of our Great Country is important, but not more important then standing for certain moral issues, IMO. It's a matter of my priorities being different from yours.

My main priorities are filtered through my moral underpinnings. These underpinnings are found in my Christian beliefs. If I was to summarize the basics of how I filter my actions/priorities it would be thus:

1) Service to God
2) Service to my family
3) Service to my local community
4) Service to my country

As a Christian, the primary goal is to spread the Gospel of Jesus for eternal freedom from sin. It is not to spread the gospel of a democratic republic. I recognize that if all your treasures exist in the here and now, then defense of the Republic is number #1.

It might be helpful to you to recognize that the Christian wing of the Republican Party believes and lives this verses...

Mark 8:36-38 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Sincerely

Great points.

Hoping to get Hillary in the White house so that a Conservative is elected in 2012...

That's more of a suicide pact than an actual strategy. Excuse me, but I'm going to go drink an entire bottle of wine now. Cheers...
