My Dad spent six-months in a Navy Hospital in the late 1960's...

I enjoyed your father's story on your home page. Sounds like he was a wonderful guy who gave his family a lot of joy. Many of us had some awful times in the Navy health care system in the 60s, myself included. That's one reason why so many of us on FR are adamantly opposed to socialized medicine.

The main complaints of the WaPo articles focused not so much on the health care, which many say is excellent at WR, but on the Building 18 conditions already discussed and the many bureaucratic tangles that are difficult for the patients. I also heard one story recently of an inexcusably crude civilian worker who made abusive statements to an amputee; on the other hand, the half-dozen or so civilian residence administrators at WR whom volunteers like myself have come to know well are outstanding, deeply motivated individuals. Part of what we do involves watching these people interact with dozens of rapid-fire demands for service week in and week out, which they fulfill with great care.

The commie writers working at the Washington Post want everyone to relive their worst hospital experience and conflate the memory with present day Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Commie propagandists are excellent at pushing sensitive buttons.

The medical care at WR is superb.
Plant problems were recounted at an old motel used by WR as a barracks for outpatients.

The main problem is the large number of recovering troops who are not Regular Army, but reserves or National Guard, and the excruciating red tape that tangles them into oblivion.

If the Army can get better paperwork systems functioning, as a result of the WP article, then a real service will have been done. But the smears to our military are truly despicable.

Any word from the FReep today?

Just got off the cell with DC Chapter members. The moonbats' planned protest at Walter Reed today was a coward's wet dream – they never showed up.

• Must have read our plans to counterprotest;

• or maybe the fact that we have the permits near the gates unduly discouraged their self-esteem,

• or maybe it was because, according to the leftie After Downing Street blog, Gael Murphy (CodePink's DC leader) and a couple of other "activists" were rumored to have been arrested this morning for trying to barge past guards into the House Appropriations Committee hearing room, where the war appropriations issue was under discussion.

As I post this, the 10 or more FReepers who were there are now breaking pizza together at an "undisclosed location", having safeguarded WR's gates from 2:30 to 5:00 in extremely high winds and showers.

It's now about to rain buckets on DC and our local meteorologist is predicting snow for tomorrow.

Thanks for the update!

Now I get to jump into the buckets of rain!

Hope the snow predicted for the Northeast doesn't hinder the Gathering of Eagles caravans for Saturday.

I'll be there regardless!

Thank you, Albion Wilde, for that exclusive report on the truth of the pseudo-scandal at Walter Reed!!!

Not only will the truth not show up in MSM, but the posters here who screamed in indignation about WRAMC, saying don't shoot the MSM messengers, will not return.

Sadly, they would sooner support the lies of traitors like Anne Hull and Dana Priest than the truth of our own trusted FR eyewitness.

Since so many hotels have been maxed with reservations by veterans, it's unlikely that they will back down. I think many of the veterans are eagerly anticipating locking arms with one another and sending "the look" to the nearest dirty little loudmouth near any of the Memorials – for the pure pleasure of watching them leave a skid mark in their training pants.

I picked up an extra packet of plastic rain ponchos at the Dollar Store.

My van is being repaired.. hopefully done by noon tomorrow & I will hi tail it to Walter Reed. I wont eat or pay bills this month but the vans breaks, fuel line & misc small things will be working. I just okayed about 1/3 of what needed to be done (safety/working/things)

I need a location (not too far from Walter Reed) to park my van overnight..Would prefer a home.. but not necessary. Last time I drove we drove about 50 mile away from DC to find a rest stop off highway. Would prefer to avoid that.

If someone knows of a walmart in the vicinity of Walter reed that would work. Our local Walmart is a 24 hour one & we have lots of RVs, vans & trucks there regularly...

good to hear that our people were there to ward off the potential attack today..

wouldnt it be a shame if Murphy, sheenan, Fonda etc were ALL arrested for the entire weekend?

Now THAT is a really good idea! I'm not doing too well with my search for a closer-in spot that isn't an arm and a leg, either. Click on DC Walmart locations here to plan your destination. Do you have time to check with them whether they allow all-night parking? I am crazed with more duties for Saturday.

"over the past weeks, the motorists who beeped for our troop-support rally at the gates of Walter Reed on Friday night were now double, triple in number. Now it wasn't just a discreet little toot every five or ten cars; it was many drivers at a time releasing loud, long, sometimes frankly impassioned blasts of the horn, from cars, trucks, Metro buses, even a DC police car – hospital zone or no hospital zone."

Regardless of the supposed "motivations" of the reporters that started this latest round of "early retirements"....this is a FANTASTIC opportunity to raise the public's awareness of conditions and circumstances in various VA medical care facilities across the country.

I've been treated in FOUR states in the last 5 years and can ASSURE you things vary WILDLY from place to place.

It's not all good...it's not all bad....

However, if YOU know about something that needs to be fixed...THIS is the ideal time to capitalize on the public's awareness....!!!

~~~~~~~~
Thank you to all who have relentlessly kept their vigil at Walter Reed. Too bad it's not happening at EVERY Military/VA facility in the land....!!!
A few of us got there around 2:30pm. Eventually are numbers got up to about 12. PleaDeal can get back to you with an Honor Roll later. She's doing the AAR with pics.
*Never saw any commies. We basically manned all 4 corners as well as the bus stop half-circle area down the street. Stayed until 5pm. Seemed like the temp dropped at least 20 degrees from time we arrived till the time we left. Windy too.
trooprally, BillF, Cindy-True-Supporter, Taco Mamma, Danang68, and myself manned the bus stop. Around 4:15-4:30 an old model silver/gray Mercedes pulled up to the curb, drove by slowly then immediately left. Car full of young kids. *Could have been "them". Can't be sure.
When we left it had already started to rain. So if the scum showed up after we left then they would have done their thing in the rain and cold.
