More Men Report Sexual Harassment at Work
Robert DiGiacomo, for Yahoo! HotJobs
Defying assumptions about sexual harassment in the workplace, a record number of men reported being harassed by male colleagues last year, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Cases filed by men made up 15.4 percent of the 12,025 sexual harassment charges in fiscal year 2006, compared to about 11 percent a decade ago, according to the EEOC.
New Realities in the Workplace
"There's no question this is not only a growing category of claims, but also a large societal problem of which we are just starting to see the tip of the iceberg," says Riki Wilchins, executive director of the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition, a nonprofit group based in Washington, D.C.
Although the statistics don't reveal whether the alleged harassers of men also are male, they typically are -- it's rare for a man to file charges against a female coworker or supervisor, says EEOC spokesman David Grinberg.
It's also unlikely that interactions in the workplace between men have become more hostile over the past 15 years.

"On several occasions, Oncale was forcibly subjected to sex-related, humiliating actions against him by Lyons, Pippen and Johnson in the presence of the rest of the crew. Pippen and Lyons also physically assulted Oncale in a sexual manner, and Lyons threatened him with rape."
"When asked at his deposition why he left Sundowner, Oncale stated I felt that if I didnt leave my job, that I would be raped or forced to have sex.
If I remember this right, Mr. Oncale claimed that these men held him and humped him in the shower, without penetration.
True enough. Hard to say, since the guys in this story evidently didn't like the attention they were getting.
As Debra would say, "Idoits." This story is about GAY advances on men not horse play or falling in love with a co-worker. Try reading before jumping to the wrong conclusion.

That's a clear case of harassment if I ever heard one!
Simply put: How Things Really Are versus How I Feel and Would Like Them To Be.
Most women can easily handle the 'comments' for overly aggressive 'dweeb' males in the workplace exception of those comments coming from a superior that has direct influence over promotions / employment etc. Smart women either ignore such crap or simply put 'little boy' into his place quickly.
Easy 'meal tickets' are just too tempting for many people in the workplace regardless of the individual's sex.
Want to watch something better than any soap opera?
Put 3 single women in a department staffed by men for the majority. Been there...got the T-shirt....it was amazing the infighting that went full circle between those younger girls and the slick means they employed to garner support from their male counterparts.
I've worked with quite a few gay men over the years. They were uniformly personable and extremely competent. Not a single one ever tried to hit on me.
WRONG!!!
read for yourself (you will have to go to the whole transcript by clicking the link which you obviously didnt do)
"it's important to note that in gender-based harassment, the aggressors -- and their victims -- are likely straight."
"We assume that the vast majority of the cases are not individuals who are necessarily gay or transgender, but they're in situations where there are these abrasive codes of masculinity to which men are expected to live up to."
Good thing it wasn't a microscope. Now that would have been considered harassment! ;^D
Bwahahaha - we appear to have very similar taste in music. Did I say simular?
Are suggesting that when one male wants sex with another that they are both straight - based upon this article? The story says that men report other men who hit on them, does that not sound like gay men seeking sex?
PAY ATTENTION AND READ THIS AGAIN (FROM THE ARTICLE):
"it's important to note that in gender-based harassment, the aggressors -- and their victims -- are likely straight."
"We assume that the vast majority of the cases are not individuals who are necessarily gay or transgender, but they're in situations where there are these abrasive codes of masculinity to which men are expected to live up to."
THIS IS NOT ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT ALL ITS MEN HORSING AROUND AND THE WUSSES AND METROSEXUALS HAVING THEIR FEELINGS HURT BY REAL MEN.....YOU SEEM DENSE, ARE YOU?????
Was that the most constructive thing you had to say? Next time, I suggest you keep it to yourself. Thanks.
OK,, who here hasn't had to boof their female dean at college to stop the harrassement?
Hands........?
Oh, so it was just me huh?
That's just icky!
But, this is time for a joke...
"Why is it that when a man talks dirty to a woman, it's sexual harassment, but when a woman talks dirty to a man, it's $6.99 a minute?"
Mark
Fist in face harassment ends.
This is like any disease that suddenly becomes popularized then goes to a mini-epidemic of diagnosis; only in this case what you see is a new boldness on the part of the newly freed libido of the now-liberated sexually repressed.
I never have understood why the whole sexual harrassment issue became a matter for litigation instead of a basis for termination or a good, old-fashioned fight in the alley.
