I thought this was an interesting development. If I remember correctly this was postulated more than a century ago by a Republican Congressman from Minnesota.

Clearly Bush's fault. Call Al Gore.

"Scientists have discovered a large area thousands of square kilometers in extent in the middle of the Atlantic where the Earths crust appears to be missing. Instead, the mantle - the deep interior of the Earth, normally covered by crust many kilometers thick - is exposed on the seafloor, 3000m below the surface."
Calling Al Gore! Calling Al Gore!

Now they are taking our crust too? Will Dick Cheney and his Halliburton minions stop at nothing to rule the world?

Scientists may replace this crust with the one in M. Moores underwear.

You mean that guy on the old Art Bell program that told us about the magma flowing inside the earth was correct?

"...middle of the Atlantic where the Earths crust appears to be missing. Instead, the mantle - the deep interior of the Earth, normally covered by crust many kilometers thick - is exposed on the seafloor, 3000m below the surface." Lets see here...
We've know for decades the the crust is thin at the mid-Atlantic ridge. That's because this is where the earth's plates (the crust) are created and where they move apart. Sea-Floor Spreading is a dynamic of Plate Tectonics, which evolved from the Continental Drift theory.
Nothing new to see here so move along. ;-)

I recently heard a couple of Canadian geologists debating whether the next big geological change was going to put Australia next to W. Canada, or do something in the Atlantic.
And the time frames were far beyond what Algor, the UN, and other such ilk are scaremongering for "global warming".

Natures answer to the melting ice caps and rising sea levels.Excess Ocean waters will drain into that big ol' hole and save every atoll.
But....but....what if the hole completely drains all of earth's water into the core of the earth and turns the surface of this planet into another Mars?

Wow, I am impressed that you remember something
that happened more than a century ago ...
But seriously, who are you talking about?

What is the thermohaline circulation?
The thermohaline circulation is a global ocean circulation. It is driven by geographic differences in the density of sea water, which are controlled by temperature (thermal) and salinity (haline). In the North Atlantic this circulation transports warm and salty water from the tropics to the north.
Oceanic ridges are areas of volcanic activity, areas that are heated. Oh yeah, it plausible to say it plays a salient part in ocean water convection.
