I have a guy in my house (he's my wife's friend's husband) who is claiming that Muslims are getting beat up a lot on campuses and in general. He is trying to claim an equivalency of violence. I seem to remember reading something here recently with facts debunking this as CAIR propaganga. I also remember a wonderful list I've seen posted here numerous times recounting the entire litany of Islamic terror.

This is the year 2007 if he is still saying stuff like that, then you are not going to change his mind.

I think for people like him, it is just something he does, he doesn't believe it, or not believe it, it is just his inner audio tape running.

You need to just relax and let him go on, he doesn't want to draw you into a discussion, he just wants to emote.

Tell him you totally agree and think that maybe he should be an "ambassador" from the people of the U.S.A. Bring him to your den or office and sit down at your computer.

Just get on the computer to a travel service. Have a credit card showing as you sit down. Ask him; under what name does he want the tickets to... malaysia or pakistan.. or maybe even to a safe area like lebanon or the gaza strip.. put in? Tell him you are paying for the tickets and hotel, but you doubt that he will spend much time in the hotel.

Get his reaction on audio or audio and video tape. Case closed and ask him to shut up with his childishness while in your home.

What proof does he offer?

Without some proof, he is merely stating his opinion, and opinions are like anuses, everyone has one.

Plus, you need to understand the rules of argument or proof. An isolated incident does not support his statement, it may simply be coincidental. He must produce multiple instances that show a trend before he is presenting anything more than his opinion.

When responding to an opinion presented in the form of a factual statement use the "U" turn technique. Ask three questions/statements using the word "you."

This seems to really upset you.
How do you feel when you think about this?
Do you remember the first time you felt this way?

After all, opinion presented as fact really is a personal problem and doesn't deserve a response.
