Report: Prince Charles advises banning McDonald’s food

LONDON - Prince Charles suggested Tuesday on a visit to the United Arab Emirates that banning McDonald’s fast food was crucial for improving people’s diets, a British news agency reported.

Charles’s comments came while visiting the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi for the launch of a public health campaign, Britain’s Press Association news agency reported.

”Have you got anywhere with McDonald’s? Have you tried getting it banned? That’s the key,” Charles asked one of the center’s nutritionists, according to the news agency.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman called the remark disappointing. ”This appears to be an off-the-cuff remark, in our opinion,” she said on condition of anonymity, in line with company practice in Britain.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s Corp. took steps last year to display nutrition facts on its packaging and vary its menu to counter charges that its food is unhealthy and contributes to obesity. There are 25 McDonald’s franchises in the United Arab Emirates.

Charles, who is first in line to the British throne, is an active advocate of organic food. He set up a farm on his Highgrove Estate that does not use artificial pesticides or fertilizers in 1986.

The prince was in the United Arab Emirates with his wife, Camilla, as part of a tour of Gulf countries.

The United Arab Emirates has the world’s second highest number of diabetes cases per capita. One out of five people aged 20 to 79 already suffers from the illness, while 40 percent of the population is at risk for developing it.

My husband is a diabetic and he has never eaten at a Mickey D's in his life.

In fact he has never eaten at restaurants in the past 30 years, oh, except once last year on a trip to Toronto.

I have to agree with him. McDonalds' food should be banned.

Not on "obesity prevention" grounds, but because their "food" tastes *awful*! A good example - the 10,000 degree plasma wrapped in pastry called the "McDonalds Hot Apple Pie".

The doofus doesn't have the stones to ask for a ban on 'Fish n Chips'.

Average Life time has tripled since we got off the bangers and mash and blood pudding.

This issue needs to be turned over to the "Knock It Off" department.

Hey Prince,

I'd be more afraid of Catholics starting to outnumber Anglicans in your kingdom than McDonalds contributing to the lard butt's butt size

How about if we ban Prince Charles instead? At least forbid him from making stupid statements like that one.

This twirp is all about control and power. This is the standard BS you'll hear from Hitlary, Obama-lama-ding-dong, Fooliani and the rest of the libs. Big business is evil because they target our young people blah blah blah. Great Britain is already a socialist state. This won't effect them a bit. It's expected. Unfortunately, the few people that understand the danger of these kinds of politics in this country are just that; "few"

Yeah, like traditional Brit foods are better for you... Bangers, Fish and Chips, Blood Puddin, and my favorite (not matter what it contains), Spotted Dick.

He'd do better by forcing companies that want to sell food products in England to use sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup in their recipes...but hey, banning McDonald's is easier for him little brain.

Maybe they could settle with just outlawing the tractor-beams that McDonald's uses to pull people into their restaurants?

How many people would have to die in order for this to be viable on a global basis?

This guy is a complete numbskull.

All "organic" means is that it was grown in manure.

So, that makes Mr. Windsor's remarks about fast food...

You know what else they should do?

They should make everybody gather at the town square for government led calisthenics each dawn.
