Schwarzenegger Wants Iraq Withdrawal

Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger has aligned himself with Democrats in calling on the Bush administration to set a clear timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

Speaking on CBS’s "Face the Nation,” on Sunday, the California governor said Americans won’t support a war that involves an open-ended commitment and threatens to become a Vietnam-like quagmire.

"We should let the Iraqis know that we are here until this time, and then we’re going to draw back,” Schwarzenegger said. "We’re going to draw our troops out of Iraq. I think a timeline is absolutely important because I think that the people in America don’t want to see another Korean war, another Vietnam war, where it’s an open-ended thing.”

Most Democrats have voiced support for a timetable for withdrawal, and some have even set a specific date, notes Peter Nicholas of the Los Angeles Times.

Sen. Barack Obama has introduced legislation requiring all combat troops to be out of Iraq by March 2008, and another presidential candidate, Sen. Hillary Clinton, recently called for removing some troops within 90 days. Former Sen. John Edwards wants an immediate withdrawal of 50,000 troops.

He can't run for president, so he should worry about his state's myriad problems and butt out.

Yeah, but he can run for Congress. I think he's setting up for a Senate run.

Yes, Ahnald, lets run a war by what the polls suggest what the average American thinks about the war (given that 95% of what most Americans get for war news is tainted by the liberal bias against G.W. Bush). Let us wage a war against an enemy with more than a 1300 year history of waging war against non-muslims by placing a timetable on when we will cut-and-run. That ought to make the enemy stop blowing up innocent civilians, won't it?

Why are these people so damned stupid?

I recall reading about a poll taken shortly after the end of WWII. Maybe someone here knows the specifics, but a very large percentage of Americans (something like 45%) thought the war was not worth fighting.

Lengthy wars are never popular. That's why our leaders don't run military policy by the poll results.

It would appear that DemoncRats and RINO's are trying to run this war by poll results. If they get their way this country will pay a heavy price.

Does this jerk off ever know when to keep his big mouth shut? It's bad enough he's in bed with the Democrats in practically everything. His huge ego makes him keep talking and talking and talking and talking
