Ectopic means the fertilized egg is growing outside the uterus, so scraping the uterus would be singularly ineffective. I think conversation with a friend who may not have understood what was done, or did not communicate it well, is not the best way to get a knowledge of medical procedures. Here's a simple but useful explanation of the treatment:
"What Are the Options for Treatment?
Treatment of an ectopic pregnancy varies, depending on its size and location and whether you want the ability to conceive again.
An early ectopic pregnancy can sometimes be treated with an injection of methotrexate, which dissolves the fertilized egg and allows your body to reabsorb it. This nonsurgical approach minimizes scarring of your pelvic organs.
If the pregnancy is further along, you'll likely need surgery to remove the abnormal pregnancy. In the past, this was a major operation, requiring general anesthesia and a large incision across the pelvic area. This may still be necessary in cases of emergency or extensive internal injury.
However, the pregnancy may sometimes be removed using laparoscopy, a less invasive surgical procedure. The surgeon makes a small incision in the lower abdomen and then inserts a laparoscope. This long, hollow tube with a lighted end allows the doctor to view internal organs and insert other instruments as needed. Sometimes, a second small abdominal incision is made for the instruments. The ectopic pregnancy is then surgically removed and any damaged organs are repaired or removed. General or regional anesthesia may be used."

I'd like to see it ended, but ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose. Ultimately, the woman has to BE alive in the first place to make that decision, hence the philosophical conundrum that most on the other side seem unable to grasp.

Now that I think about it, I think she had a D&E, not a D&C. I'll have to ask him again. I do recall them saying the doctor was saying ectopic and tubal pregnancy. Apparently, her tubes were somewhat twisted, putting her at greater risk and harder to get pregnant.

Many people would rather die than to live under their difficult circumstances, but that doesn't give them the right in God's eyes to kill themselves.
It depends.
Our lawmakers recognized that fact centuries ago and enacted laws making suicide a serious crime.
About the same time when slavery was allowed?

The only D&E I know of is "Dilation and Evacuation", done in the second trimester of pregnancy, so I doubt it, but I can't keep debating gynecological inaccuracy. This is such an emotional topic, people feel strongly about it, and adding incorrect information to the mix doesn't help. :-\ Have a good evening.

Inconclusive. It looks as if he misspoke.

(If Roe is not overturned, no unborn child will ever be protected in law.)

Do you suppose LtdGovt will finally believe he's pro-choice when he starts parading around wearing his official NARAL 'Champion Of Choice' medallion that he accepted at one of their death rallies?
Chances are when the leading infanticide organization gives you as much or more money than they give to the pro-choice Dim and when they give you awards and voter recommendations, then they think you really are pro-choice. Not just a 'constructionist' of some sort.

Why? So the conservative vote is split and the Dem's win. Regardless Roe vs Wade will not be overturned,it a mute point.

Ronald Reagan explained the rape exception in a very nice way. He did not say that abortion was murder, but he did think that it was wrong. He said that just like a woman had the right to defend herself from the rapist, she had the right to defend herself from the result of the violent act that she did not ask for.
Reagan was right on a lot of things but wrong here. If you have defined abortion as killing a human life then it is in no way 'just' to allow her to kill a child in self defense just because the father did something terrible. It is not about 'forcing' her to carry it. It is about not allowing her to kill it because she feels upset. Reagan's explanation is all warm and fuzzy but try to explain that to the many people out there that are the product of a rape. If their existence reminds their mother of something bad it does not invalidate their right to live. You can try to justify it as being compassionate but that does not show any compassion to the innocent child.
In the first part of Reagan's example the woman is defending her well being and maybe life from a violent aggressor intent on doing her deliberate harm. In the second case she is killing an innocent child because it reminds her of something bad that happened. Sorry, those are not even remotely equal.

So Hillary or Obama wins?
To: patriciamary
I would rather have Rudy pick the next Supreme Court Justice than Obama or Hillary.Small steps can produce big changes.
To: Trailerpark Badass
so the question it comes down to is 'is the developing fetus a human being?'. Of course it is. If there were any doubt, deliveries would be even more anxious than they already are.
lol. 'human being' not only in the sense of 'human species', but ('human' + 'being'). 'being' is the key. born vs unborn. citizen vs alien. etc.

I think it's important to understand that ANYONE serving in a public office that is given the charge to defend the Constitution and the Laws of the United States can without bias say that a woman does have a right to choose.Would you consider enforcing gun laws to be part of "defending the Constitution"?

That is the law. I believe Rudy, like most attorneys, thinks "through" the law. John Quincy Adams thought so much of the law that he swore in using a law book and not the Bible. Can you point to the actual law or the actual portion of the Constitution that gives women the "right" to kill their unborn child?

Poor comparison. Wrong. There's no difference between a woman killing an unwanted child in or outside of the womb.

There are many different levels of prostate cancer. It is a very serious disease. A few have very little cancer, but many have much more. This is true---doctors diagnose cancer by "stages."
Current accounts indicate Giuliani made a complete recovery, and is now supposedly cancer free.
That would indicate his cancer was eminently treatable, and was thankfully caught at the onset, in the initial stages.
Would also underscore Spiff's questioning Rudy's motivation for dropping out of the Senate race.

No, they don't. Criminal laws protect individual liberty. So you view the laws against murder as protecting individual liberty. Fine, we'll use your terminology. An abortion interferes with the individual liberty of the child. It should therefore be outlawed.
And I tell you, I prefer this kind of hypocrisy over the Islamic form.
It's all the same. Condoning the murder of innocents is the same, no matter what 'dress' it wears.
Why? Because I don't buy into your nonsense?
No, because you think the murder committed by Muslims is worse than the murder committed by abortionists (about a million times a year in this country alone).

it is actually interpeting the text of the Consitution, and doing so narrowly. So you are saying the constitution allows the murder of innocents? Interesting.
