Rudy Giuliani: 'A Woman Has the Right to Choose' Abortion

Reprint Information Hollywood Hates America Dick Morris: Don't Dare Criticize Hillary Cheney: McCain Is Wrong on Rumsfeld Bill Richardson: Obama Should Apologize Atheists Challenge Faith-Based Initiatives

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani met with firefighters and police officers in this early voting state Wednesday, using the forum to reference the Sept. 11 terror attacks, which earned him national attention.

"The first people that arrive on the scene of the bombing or the anthrax attack ... it's going to be one of your brothers or your sisters or you that gets to do it," the former New York mayor told a crowd of about 200 emergency workers. "Your ability to do it well will once again determine if we save lives - save America."

Giuliani compared firefighters and police to uniformed military personnel and said the federal Department of Homeland Security needs to ensure first responders "have the training and protection you need to defend your country."

Giuliani has a tough road ahead in South Carolina, which is to host the first Southern primaries in 2008. His moderate positions on gun control and support for abortion rights do not sit well with the state's Christian conservatives, who accounted for a third of the 2000 GOP primary vote. Those voters swung heavily to President Bush that year, giving him a 2-1 ratio margin over Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was viewed as soft on abortion.

On Wednesday, Giuliani reiterated his own position.

"I'd advise my daughter or anyone else not to have an abortion," Giuliani said. "I'd like to see it ended, but ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose.

"I believe that you've got to run based on who you are, what you really are and then people actually get a right to disagree with you," he said. "And I find if you do it that way, even people who disagree with you sometimes respect you."

Giuliani also said he's not concerned about a recent poll that showed rising numbers for Democratic opponents.

"We're a tremendous amount of time away from an election," he said. "We haven't even gotten to a primary yet. The best thing we can do now is organize."

Perhaps ruling that a child that hasn't taken its first breath if in fact human, would redefine the very meaning of "born"?

"We consider the underlying fallacy of the plaintiff's argument to consist in the assumption that the enforced separation of the two races stamps the colored race with a badge of inferiority. If this be so, it is not by reason of anything found in the act, but solely because the colored race chooses to put that construction upon it."

No government can take that away.

The government takes life away on a regular basis.

Indeed, the list of candidates is not encouraging at this time.

I'm praying earnestly for our country, a Spiritual revival.

If it needs to be aborted, then it is life.

If it doesn't exist, then it doesn't need to be aborted. To abort means to stop something that is ONGOING.

Birth control has nothing to do with the stopping the life of a living being.

Do you support murdering babies?

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. Stop wasting everybody's time. You could have defeated Hillary for NY Senator, but you didn't have the stones to try. You'll never win nationally.

I swear, if both nominees turn up liberal, whoever the third-party conservative candidate is will have a real chance.

it should be up to the states to determine its policy regarding unborn life colored people and abortion slavery, not up to the court. Nothing in the Constitution authorizes the Court to make determinations about unborn life slavery and impose them on the states. [except where the Constitution USED to say that non-whites were worth less than white people]

Yeah, so what? It took a constitutioal amendment before slavery was outlawed. The same needs to, but will never happen in the case of abortion for it to be outlawed.

However, I will not be saddened in the least bit if we have a bit of "conservative judicial activism" (to use an oxymoron), with regards to abortion. Abortion is an inherent evil, just like murder:

The states will just pass a constittional amendment making abortion legal again. Are you arguing that the Court should ignore the amdnemtn?

If it needs to be aborted, then it is life.

Clearly so. Big bump. If it wasn't an unborn child, they wouldn't need to abort it.

Given that pro-lifers are very clear and uniform on saving the life of the mother in tubal pregnancies, the pro-life position is very consistent. Pro-lifers don't advocate saving the mother's life from a doomed pregnancy which would kill the mother.

If he didn't run against her before because he didn't have "the stones", why is he willing to run the risk of it now?

No government can do away with the right to life = "no government can take it away."

To engage in capital punishment is a violation of the right. The right to life is not thenceforth ended in that country.

There are legal violations of the right (capital punishment) and there are illegal violations (murder.)

You one-issue voters are going to cause the downfall of the GOP!

"Let justice be done, though the heavens [or the GOP] fall."

Sorry, I can't remember the source. Yes, I did see your sarcasm tag, but it still looked like a really good place to use the quote.

There are violations of the right to life which are both ethical and legal. Tubal pregnancy is one of them.

But the Consitution does actually proscribe states from enacting laws contrary to federal law, in the so-called `premption clause'.

Only when the feds are acting within the boundaries ste by the Constitution. Read Amendments X.

(And the Commerce clause. For better or worse, it's called 'Federalism'.) Article. IV. Section. 1. Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.

That's not the Commerce Clause, that's the Full Faith and Credit Clause. And it has absolutely nothing to do with Congress, legislation abortion, so don't even bother. And neither has the Commerce Clause.

As I'm sure you know, the SCOTUS also decided Plessy v. Ferguson, bolstering slavery.

Dear Lord, am I really arguing with YOU? Anyone with even limited amount of knowledge about constitutional law should know that Plessy had absolutely nothing to do with slavery. In fact, Plessy was decided after constitunional amendments banning slavery had been passed.

That's a pretty bizarre analysis, IMO. The abortion conversation is most frequently initiated by persons who are anti-abortion. It ain't Dems who are doing all the talking about Rudy's stance. It is the Dobsons of the world.

Now I don't know about you, but I find that to be disgusting.

While you are at it, might as well let the women kill the 5 yearold she had with that no good ex-husband that turned out to be abusive. Would not want to remind her of that. She has a right not to be reminded so feel free to chop the kid up and flush it.

We are endowed with "rights" by our Creator. Those rights are not able to be taken away by any law or leader or government.

I'm sorry to break the news to you...

It is an illegal order if one wants to use a military term.

That's what the Leftists are saying about the war efforts in Iraq.

What do you think about adoption? What percentage of abortions are due to rape? Is the unborn baby innocent or not?

Poor comparison.
