FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20070216-12 Feb. 16, 2007

IA Captures Al Qaeda In Iraq Cell Leader, Recovers Weapons Cache Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD – Soldiers of the 5th Iraqi Army Division captured a suspected Al Qaeda in Iraq cell leader during operations Feb. 15 in Muqdadiyah. The suspect is believed responsible for coordinating and carrying out several improvised explosive device and rocket attacks targeting Iraqi civilians and Iraqi Security Forces in the area.

During the operation, several munitions caches were recovered by Iraqi Forces.

Munitions confiscated included 12 152mm artillery projectiles, ten 130mm artillery projectiles, five 105mm artillery projectiles, ten 120mm mortar rounds, 15 82mm mortar rounds, ten 60mm mortar rounds, 23 anti-tank mines, explosives and detonation cord.

The operation was planned and conducted by 5th IA Division forces. Coalition Forces accompanied the Iraqi force in an advisory role. Operations caused minimal damage and there were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition Forces casualties.

The operation is another example of the increasing capability of Iraqi Forces to combat violent elements operating within Iraq and Iraqi Forces ability to provide for the safety and security of citizens within Muqdadiyah.

The reason you can't do that is so you can extract information from him and find other baddies to aim that 120mm cannon at.

Couter-insurgency is all about getting someone to drop a dime or someone or getting someone to rat someone else out. It is how you get your lead on the next terrorist. You don't want ot kill your informants before you extract everything they know.

There is plenty of time to kill him later.

It is nice to see the Iraquis doing some of the heavy lifting.

Our great Iraqi allies hunt down terrorists. They help destroy Al Qaida. They defend freedom in their country, which advances freedom for the whole world. America is fortunate to have friends like the Iraqi patriots.

General Casey said of the Iraqi troops "They work better when they are with us."
This is just another example of the necessity of Bushes troop surge. If we send in more troops to help them secure Iraq that will free up others to increase training.

Democrats in the House responded today

"quick lets snatch defeat from the jaws of Victory".

Of course England boasts the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch so that may not be a huge improvement.

The best analogy I can think of is when you are teaching your kid to ride a bike... sometimes you have to let go and let them fall a couple of times, and then you grab on to build their confidence.. and soon the are riding on their own and don't realize it... I think the Iraqi People are "getting it"... it is a slow process......

The difference is the Iraqis showed up... The political pressure that Bush has put on them has brought them out of their shell so to speak. Should see a broadened Iraqi Army/police movement soon and then Bush can call it Victory and start bringing our troops home..

Added benefit the Dems voted on the record and on the wrong side of history once again... So long 08 chances....
