Washington, D.C. - This week, the U.S. House of Representatives debated H.Con.Res.63, a resolution disapproving of the president’s decision to deploy 21,500 U.S. combat troops to Iraq. H.Con.Res 63 passed the House floor today, with a bipartisan majority, by a vote of 246 to 182. In response, U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) released the following statement:

“I supported the resolution because it is consistent with my support of the troops and my belief that the planned surge is not the best approach for our nation or those troops in the field.

“While I voted for today’s resolution - narrow and inadequate as it is; I cannot help but express my frustration that the Democratic Leadership has squandered a unique opportunity to allow a full and fair debate to on the challenges we face in Iraq.

“By making it impossible for rank and file members to offer alternatives or amendments to the Iraq resolution, the Democratic Leadership stripped members of both parties, of their right to participate and prevented the House from working its will.

“Washington should be working to unite, not divide our country. The new majority’s decision to stifle the voices of Republicans and Democrats alike has done nothing except unnecessarily politicize the war.

“The right way forward is to allow a thoughtful and serious debate that encompasses alternative recommendations from both sides of the aisle. Sadly, this week that debate was shut down by politics.”

I have always admired English's support of US small manufacturers, but I can not understand what prompted this guy to align himself with a clear and undermining effort and vendetta aimed at GWB. Maybe John Murtha might explain.
Politics is disgusting me!

U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.)

Short timer English, if anyone wanted to give the U.S. House of Traitors an ENEMA, I would nominate you to be the recipient of the probe!

The term "political whore" is particularly applicable to this vote.

The last thing America needs is another Vietnam: nor something destined to be called “Iraqnam.” Phil English and the Republicans who voted in support either forgot the lessons of history or they never learned them. This vote was nothing but pure politics.

Democrats want to create an “Iraqnam” to further their political agenda. Just as they did in Vietnam, Democrats want the United States of America to lose in Iraq, and lose in our war against terrorism.

Democrats failed to support Vietnam and Cambodia. Today Democrats want to abandon Iraq using the same excuses.

Why can’t Democrats support America and what we believe in? Many say they do not question the patriotism of Democrats, but I do. The Democrats are anti-American and must be beaten in 2008.
