Am I the only one to have discerned the real purpose of the article was to reintroduce the "Republicans are Nazis" meme?

Obviously the author of the piece can't and doesn't say so directly; and in fact produces a source to argue (weakly) against it near the end, down where few are likely to be followed.

But methinks she gives herself away by saying that "The GOP has become a rural, overwhelmingly Christian and Southern party" and trying to use as an example of this, a Harvard graduate comfortably elected governor of Massachusetts.

Seem to recall and AMerican Orthodox Jew once sayiing that
most American Jews are more LIBERAL than they are Jewish.
The religion they practice is Liberalism not Judaism.
Michael Medved said it better than I,if I remember him
correctly. It was memorable for it explained so much.

The GOP has become a rural, overwhelmingly Christian and Southern party. It is not populated by urban ethnics who, even if they aren't Jewish, understand Jews' cultural references and sensibilities

Urban ethnics also are usually liberals through their educational upbringing. It's not just Jews that fall into the geographic liberal abyss that the Northeast and other areas of engender.

I would be considered an "urban ethnic" who was lucky enough to escape the cycle.

Mitt Romney went to a museum named after the most premier anti-Semite and xenophobe in American history. But his choice of location suggests that he should do his homework on basic American history."

Gimme a break. So a person who drives a Jag is an anti-Semite? Hogwash! This reaction is so thin-skinned and pathetic, it's sick. But typically liberal - where victimhood is often a badge of honor.

"You know, a lot of Jews really hate Ford, and it might mess up your message. Let's try Edison's lab to make a point about American innovation."

And Miss Rubin is worried about a Southern-Centricty of the GOP?

She is so Technological, Historical, and Mid Western Challenged not to know that many of Edison's buildings were transported to the Henry Ford Museum and are about a 5 minute walk from where Mitt gave his address in the actual Automotive Area of the Museum! The NHS building was on site at Henry Ford and in 2003 it was shipped back to New Jersey, but the biggie, the "Menlo" Lab the other historical buildings remain at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.

If this is the claptrap that is passing as journalism these days it is no wonder the Freep and the Blogisphere is doing so well.

Aside of all the Ford bashing that goes on here on this website Ms. Rubin has stepped in it again. You see for all her banter (and the Jewish organizations mentioned) about Henry Ford's Antisemitic background and yes he was, they should be looking at the progress that has been made within the Ford culture for those of Jewish Heritage. Henry is probably rolling over in his grave with the number of "Hi-Pots" (high potential employees) that are Jewish that have climbed the ladder at Ford (without getting into the details, I have met MANY of them) If I am not mistaken Mark Fields, Alan Mulally's 2nd in command is Jewish.

As a side bar and I have no empirical data, but with the socially consciousness of many Jews It would not surprise me if many have seriously looked at the Escape Hybrid as an auto to purchase for example.

The sad thing about this article is the visibility it will get with all its canards.....

I'm a Jewish conservative/libertarian Republican. My only answer to the question of why Jews don't vote Republican is the same answer to the question of why do Black people not vote Republican - pure prejudice.

In Black churches, the ministers thunder against Republicans, instead of telling the congregants how to be better Christians. Instead of railing against drugs, poor school performance, and promiscuity, they trash President Bush, and Newt Gingerich before him.

In My temple, the Rabbi thunders against the President, and, unbelievably, against intelligent design. (We live near Dover, PA.) On the high holy days, instead of telling us that we should atone, and pray for forgiveness, we are told that, instead of following Jewish moral rules, we must vote Democrat to be good Jews.

In both congregations, the response of the congregants is "amen."

As with many related things on this topic, this goes beyond only Jews to all non-European descended people and their general tendency to not vote Republican.

The cultural baggage of Eastern European Jews has resulted in an unfortunate tendency to romanticize Communism and the far Left. In America, that translates into almost blind support for the Democrats and even, in the case of the Rosenbergs, to treason.

The ancestors of a large number of American Jews came to America to escape the centuries of anti-semitism and pogroms of the Czarist Russian empire. In their cultural history, "Christians" means a mob of Eastern European peasants coming to burn the Jewish village down.

In the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, those Jews were strongly attracted to the Bolshevik ideology as they saw Bolshevism as a way of toppling the hated Czarist regime as well as turning the "Christian" Eastern European peasant mobs into well behaved atheists in a theoretically classless society.

Communism was the promised Shining City Upon A Hill.

All that 19th Century Eastern European cultural baggage crossed the Atlantic and America is still dealing with it.

Since the early 20th Century Jewish immigrants who came to America never experienced the realities and the horrors of Communism first hand, they were never disillusioned of their Communist fantasies. The romance of Communism remained. The results were the Red Diaper Babies of the early 20th Century, the nuclear treason of the Rosenbergs and the fact that 80% of Jews still lean very heavily towards the Left.

In addition, in the ridiculous division of all politics into "Left" or "Right", they reason that if the Communists were "Left", then the Nazis must have been "Right". (In reality, Communism and National Socialism were simply two competing versions of "Left".) That is then carried over to America and, since the Democrats are "Left", that must mean that voting Republican is the moral equivalent of voting for Hitler-Lite.

Hopefully, the younger Jewish generations will leave that century-old cultural baggage behind as the Red Diaper generations die off and as they realize that the Left is not the friend of the Jewish people.

It's really very simple, Jews vote Dem because the Democrat Party is our socialist party. That's at the core of the whole thing.

"In short, the Republicans are not just our kind of people, many Jews say. They don't sound like us, they don't talk like us and they don't understand us. Unless and until that changes, Jews likely will likely be voting overwhelmingly Democratic for years to come."

Ms Rubin, like most left leaning Jews, which is most American Jews, continues to ignore the growing antisemitism of the "compassionate" Democrats. I personally am fairly shocked at how open this antisemitism has become among ordinary otherwise nice "liberal" people.

Also, she doesn't speak for the Jewish community, as she seems to think. The Republican Jewish Coalition in particular might take issue with her.

Whoever said Jews of the "Liberal" persuasion were really "Jews"? The number of so-called "Jews" in that vein are really cafeteria Jews: pick what they want and to H#ll with the Torah.

Urban vs rural is as good an explanation as any, I guess...what may be simpler is that they are into grievance, and the GOP isn't interested.

I suppose they'll be complaining when Ahmanutjob nukes Israel, too.

Jews are wealthier and more educated than the average American, generally oppose affirmative action and favor strong support of Israel. On these counts the GOP should, many say, have greater appeal.

The GOP is the party of the middle class. The Dems are the party of the rich.

Tikun Ha Olam Wiederherstellung der Welt

the cabbalistic conception of the Tikun Haolam—consisting of collecting the shattered pieces of a broken world and liberating the sparks (Nizot) which are encapsulated in those fragments—with the survivors’ endeavour to become anchored anew in life and to restore their shattered world in spite of the experienced destruction of their outer as well as their inner world.

In many Jewish homes, owning a Ford was verboten.

So they drive BMWs and Mercedes instead. Makes sense :-)

You would never catch a Greek from Chicago saying, as a Republican from southern Virginia just did, that asking the state to apologize for slavery was like "asking the Jews to apologize for killing Christ."

Why? Its the same logic being applied to get to those demands.
