Vanity: The tale of two parties
Posted on 02/13/2007 3:02:27 PM PST by Jim Robinson
We have two major political parties in America. One is pro abortion, pro gay rights, anti first amendment, pro gun control, pro big government, pro big spending, pro illegal immigrant, pro environmentalism, pro United Nations, anti war.
The other is or is quickly becoming pro abortion, pro gay rights, anti first amendment, pro gun control, pro big government, pro big spending, pro illegal immigrant, pro environmentalism, pro United Nations, fading quickly on the war.
Huh?

I'm already supporting Hunter. I think he or Newt would make a fine POTUS.
But, but...they aren't pretty, no one recognizes Hunter, Newt left his wifey.
Cheeze and rice, we aren't electing a husband in chief. Where have I heard THAT one before?? If Newt gets the nod, he gets my vote. If Hunter get the nod, then likewise. If one of the three Rino-stooges is it, I'm abandoning ship!
I may still vote the Big "R," but they will NEVER recieve my support again, not my money, and not my time.

No doubt, and don't try and espouse conservative beliefs on those threads either You might be called a "newbie", or a "retread" as I was.

A reluctant ditto here on that. But there is actually a lot of time, we must not be panicked by false cries of 'FIRE' in this important theatre.

The other will compromise its principles to compete with the first.

I never select a favorite until after the first of the candidate debates, and this time it might take me longer.
I note that I have until March 8, 2008 to cast my primary vote, and I can only hope my vote will still matter at that point. :0)

Interesting points.
Let the Republicans and the Democrats split the liberal vote!

Yep, and constantly told that support for a conservative means a vote for Hillary, and for one reason or another a conservative cannot win the election.
I don't believe that the country has changed that much since Reagan swept the country by storm in the 80's. Despite the fact that he was too old, had a career in acting, and was TOO conservative!

The party my grandpa loved was a party of freedom and civil rights and personal responsibility and I am sure he is rolling in his grave. The pro slavery party of the democrats of old is a far different party today.

I'm with you on Duncan Hunter. The point is, can such a candidate get elected? I hate to be a doom and gloomer, but I'm seeing the electorate as more moderate and not likely to support him. I pray that I am wrong.
I will pull the R lever regardless, because my single biggest fear is a democrat president at this time in America, especially another Clinton presidency.

Jim, you make good points. I worry everytime I see the support for Giuliani in the party.

I'll go for CIC Guiliani and take the chance that he will appoint strict constructionists to the federal benches.
I believe Rudy is a liberal police-state thug who would be more dangerous to our Republic than would Hillary. I don't believe anything he promises to placate conservatives.

"Get behind Duncan Hunter and support him at every chance to help him win the GOP nomination."
I like Hunter and would be proud to support him and a few others that may run in 08.
IMHO what we need to do is write/call the RNC and the state party and let them know in advance where we draw the line on the issues. If they get the message enough times they'll know the line they can't cross.
They may even decide they will have to back a conservative in this race to get any voters to the polls.
We have a conservative party that can win if we refuse to allow the platform to be gutted and replaced with a modified Libertarian party platform. I'll stay in the Republican party and fight to keep all the conservative planks, and that includes all the social planks.
