spunkets: Freedom has a very unique and definite meaning. It is not defined by a list. Such as yourself.
"Hmmm.
- Freedom is about unalienable rights.
- Freedom is about life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
- Freedom is about our Constitution, the rights it perserves and the powers and authority ceded to government by the people to help perserve those rights.
"Damn, I made a list about freedom. Drat, I even said "freedom is about...authority".
Your list gives no meaning to the word freedom whatsoever. It's just list. Also, the Constituiton doesn't protect freedom. The Constitution can be used for any purpose whatsoever, including to establish socialism, which does not in any way respect freedom.
"LOL! I broke spunkets rules on describing "freedom". Can you forgive me? "
Jokes on you chief. Your description of freedom is empty of meaning.
Freedom has a definite meaning, and it's had that meaning for a long time. It is a condition, where others respect the sovereignty of will of others, there rights, and it is a gift extended by individuals to others. That's it. It has nothing to do with govm't. Govm'ts purpose and justification is to protect rights, that includes the sovereignty of will of the citizens. When it deviates from that, it eliminates the condition of freedom, regardless of the mechanism, or justification.
Here's Giuliani's quote again.
"Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it."
His idea is absolutely abhorent to freedom. It is, on it's face the obfuscaiton and con of a petty tyrant.
As to your claim about the Constitution, it can be used to completely eliminate freedom, as it has been. The voting booth, and politics, has been used to take as much as possible incrementally from the people, and redistribute it according to political power. It has been used to install socialism, and is being used to further that end. Freedom doesn't mean a damn thing anymore, unless it's about fornicating, or buggering.
Ben Franklin recognized the Constitution for what it is, and said it was imperfect. He said the future must do what they would to shape what it would become, and be used for.

No. Rudy used the word "about". I used the word "about". We both weren't giving a definition. We both were describing things that are associated with freedom.
Here's another addition to my list of things that are associated with freedom.
- Freedom is about objectivity, and having the courtesy not to twist somebodies words until you remove the context of what they say.
Perhaps you could be courteous enough to give us both the "gift" of not changing the context of what we say.
Also, the Constitution doesn't protect freedom. The Constitution can be used for any purpose whatsoever, including to establish socialism, which does not in any way respect freedom.
Gee, how profound. LOL! (No kidding Sherlock). I never said that the Constitution was foolproof. I did say that it's only the best attempt at protecting rights. Your supposed need for a correction is a non-sequitur.
