Smart of him to neglect to mention that he's from the legislative branch, given how badly presidential candidates from Congress perform.
I can't see Hunter doing much beyond forcing a more likely candidate to stake out conservative positions, presuming the more likely candidate isn't a conservative to begin with.

I prefer a candidate that doesn't have to "repackage" his positions to make them more attractive to
real conservative voters. Duncan Hunter has been consistent throughout his political career - this means alot to me.
GO DUNCAN HUNTER!!!

Strange you would say that.
The last time the GOP nominated a sitting Congressman he WON....

"I can't see Hunter doing much beyond forcing a more likely candidate to stake out conservative positions, presuming the more likely candidate isn't a conservative to begin with." What likely GOP candidates are conservatives?

According to the drive by's, Obama has a good chance, a JUNIOR senator, with little to no experience. He has no qualifications!
If the word gets out, Hunter is a shoe in!

I agree...I'm not a fan of ANY of the other candidates, but I just can't see a guy who's only been a congressman becoming President.
He's been there for over 25 years...scratch him hard enough and you'll almost ceertainly find a treasure trove of votes that can be nit picked, twisted and distorted by the opposition. That what derails so many Senators.
Frankly..if his last name was something else...Jeb Bush would win this nomination in a cake walk. The 15-20 hardcores on here that wanted him to start a civil war over Terri Schiavo aside, he's a popular former govenor of a swing state. He's durely be our best bet in 2008. But, I just can't see it right now. Maybe in 8-12 months when all other options appear futile he'll enter the race....

Ya'll kill me with that reasoning. Look at what the dems are putting up, Hitlery, the robotic bitch and Osama, a one term Senator who is getting all of the juice because he's black and the libs are filled with white guilt. Hell, I believe Dave Chappell could run and he'd get as much if not more enthusiasm, plus he'd have more name recognition. On the republican side we have a Senator, a Goveroner, and a Mayor, why not a Congressmen? My gosh, I thought we elected people on ideas, a vision for our future and our collective security as a nation. If the Congressman is the one with the best platform why would you discount him and settle for less?

That's a straw-man argument as 2008 is unlike any POTUS election in decades.
- When was the last time that a WOMAN was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that a BLACK was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that a MEXICAN was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that a sitting U.S. Senator was elected POTUS?
- When the last time that a 1st term sitting U.S. Senator was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that a North Eastern liberal, oops 'moderate', governor was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that a Mormon was elected POTUS?
- When was the last time that an 'ex' One Term U.S. Senator who did nothing for the last four years was elected POTUS?
Last but not least...
- When was the last time that a North Eastern Liberal ex Mayor was elected POTUS?
No offense, but all this 'a Congressman can't win' stuff is baloney. 2008 will be an election of 'firsts'.
(I think I have all the candidates covered)
