Every American should have health care coverage within six years, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday as he set an ambitious goal soon after jumping into the 2008 presidential race.
"I am absolutely determined that by the end of the first term of the next president, we should have universal health care in this country," the Illinois senator said.
His chief rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards, also are strong proponents of universal health care and have promised to offer their plans.
On Thursday, she criticized Bush's proposal to make health care more affordable through tax breaks, arguing that it would lead to less funding for hospitals.

Those Lefties love using words like "universal"...double speak...language sometimes lifted from the the world of religion
The word as used by secularists means nothing, but people still get hoodwinked.

Your perception is accurate.
Wealthier Euros I know come to the US regularly to get their procedures done. They would NEVER consider using the government sponsored health care hospitals and clinics that the average Euro-peon has to use.

I have been in the health insurance indusrty for a decade.
You can always tell the idiots who know nothing about the insurance industry, nothing about healthcare, nothing about the medical or pharmaceutical industries, and nothing about reality or even rational thought.
They are the first ones to squeal about the need for nationalized healthcare.
The reason that we have the finest medical care available in the world is precisely because it has never been nationalized.

This is one of the benefits to traveling. You get to talk to REAL people and I do it all the time. I did have a good experience in my former company though since we had people working there (I was at the HQ) from literally every continent on the earth and most countries. Great, great experience. Nothing like real life to teach you the truth, eh?

BINGO!

One other comment:
The Democrats aren't interested in good medical care, they are interested in controlling the masses, and what better way, than controlling who can get medical care, when. They want people to be dependent on the government for their lives.

So say it sometimes, and to them.

You sound as if having Nancy Pelosi and Ed Kennedy in charge of your medical plan is a bad thing.

This will be their solution to the Social Security and Medicare problem. Deny health care to those 65 and older, end of the problem.
To: IntelliQuark
I hope Obama and Hitlery outdo each other so far to the left that they will become the laughing stocks of the American electorate. They hopefully will keep on trying to out do each other.
What a pair of whackos!

Deny health care to those 65 and older, end of the problem. Free market solution would be even better. Price out the sickest people who cannot afford the care. Let they drop dead.

One of my jobs (self appointed) in this life, is to read the local paper at the restaurant, while using my red pen to change Federal funded, State funded, to Our money, YOUR money, TAXPAYER money in every article that catches my eye.
Every euphemism I find that disguises a TAX increase gets the red treatment, too.
Every 'promise' to 'lower taxes' gets the red remark: "Then HOW will we pay for the 'benefits' that Gummint gives us??"
There are MANY comments like "This is NOT a Gov't Function!!" or "How come I have to pay for YOUR medicine?"
I then leave it, conveniently, at the paper box in front of the place, knowing that SOMEONE will take it (for free) and get a mini-Rush rant along with their toast.

The Republicans better not allow this "universal health care" label to stick - it is Government Controlled Health Care.
